New email for healthy lunch – fairvalehealthylunch@gmail.com Tricia provided an update from Charlotte. Food period #2 has proven to be a popular one and there were many great options for everyone. She has been speaking with pita pit to confirm their options. Bonnie provided an update from that the teachers have been concerned about the delay in food delivery. By the time the teachers are able to organize and distribute the lunch it was running into classroom time – Cochran and another was delivering a little too late, 12:45; 12:50 before kids got to start eating – Bonnie contacted the vendors and asked for delivery by 12:30. Playground– Charlotte had made a phone call to have a metal working company to address the broken doublewide slide, Joyce was approached by a parent on the wonderful job we did fixing the slide. I visited it yesterday to see the work done it looks great and most importantly it’s safe for the kids to use again. Bonnie – Update that once sized the assisted swing is too small for Ryder. The OT suggested ordering the next size up. $400.00 School budget can’t afford to purchase another. Looking to exchange but original box is gone. If Bonnie is unsuccessful at returning the swing home and school will motion to purchase the new swing and have both installed. Dave – He and Craig are going to order in the yellow birch from Kent to fix the swing posts. Staff Appreciation – new “shout outs” to the staff, has your child’s teacher went above the call of duty. Please send an email to fairvalehomeandschool@gmail.com, including the teacher’s name, grade and a brief description of the event. Heather – position is available for a new “Staff Appreciation Coordinator”. Mary Ellen and Sue are still available to help out when needed. Fit-tastic – Will start up after Christmas break. Safe Arrival – Created an email template that can be used at home when voicemail is answered form home. Bonnie/Ashley have approved the new process. The option is still available to go to the school and do safe arrival but we are hoping for a few more volunteers in making the process of collecting the safe arrival voicemails from home and then forwarding them to Tara for follow up. FES Hands 2 Fairvale Home and School Meeting Summary Library Requests - Shauna sends her regrets but sent her update via email. “We’ve had a lot going on just getting set up, so we haven’t given too much thought to a theme just yet. Right now we’re thinking we’ll do a theme week in January. I’ll give you more details in the next meeting.” Parade – Shauna has graciously sent Dave in her absence but asked that we move the committee update in the agenda as Dave has other commitments. Dave will be in attendance to provide update on budget requests for float plans. Dave provided a Parade Budget staying within the $750. Opportunities through donation and volunteers to make up for the difference in budget. Bonnie has said that the school can contribute up to another $250 if needed. Dave will provide a detailed list of construction materials to allow us to make a call for donations. This year’s float theme will be the minions and will stay with a simple structure using Styrofoam. Shauna has already got some goggles. Meeting @ FES boardroom (or library) on Wednesday the 21st of October for the Parade committee and anyone who wishes to come. Encourage anyone who wants to be involved. Foam cost about $65 and makes 2 heads. Possible picket fence for safety. Credit at Kent Building Supplies could cover some of this cost. 4. Administration Report Bonnie 10 min Notes: Bonnie: Contacted Mike and can price the school clothing for the next fundraiser. All grade 5s have leadership roles. New roles were created. Running club is actively underway. Ashley: Drama auditions this week. This year’s play will be Snow White – 31 students auditioned. We Day group – http://www.weday.com/ We Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities. We Schools is the yearlong program that nurtures compassion in young people and gives them the tools to create transformational. 20 tickets for we day event in Halifax this year, that’s 5 more than last year. The increase number of tickets is reflective of the schools efforts with events in their community. Looking to encourage more boys to be involved. 15 children and 5 adults are planned to go to Halifax for We Day. This year it falls on parent teacher (Nov 27th) and Bonnie will be staying back for that. Looking for a Dad to go as the 2 male teachers aren’t available due to PT. 3 hotel double suites rooms reserved Homewood Suites and less than a km away from the event location. Bonnie: “Me to We” team is in grade 5 but includes some grade 4s are included preparation for next year. Leave Nov 26th after school and be ready for 8:30 Friday morning. Shared a bus with Quispamsis middle last year, Potash Corp sponsored $500 for the schools to go. Rotating the jolly 5, the bike and the ipads. Elsa said most kids rode today. 2 mins each using a timer. Other schools are asking about the bikes and how we are making out with them. Wondering if there is a pedometer available we can hook up to these bikes? Home and School can possibly fund a few more bikes, we’ll address it in Nov. Still want to look into the new bike racks for outdoors, will address in the spring of 2016. Calendars – FES Hands 4 Fairvale Home and School Meeting Summary Sold 135 calendars + advertising – cost of printing = total raised $2000+ A few extras to sell if anyone missed out and would like to buy one. About 14 left, first come first served. Stop & Shop – Heather – Dec 4 & 5 – lots of vendors confirmed. Looking into having a canteen with popcorn and water available. Santa’s workshop – Flyers will be here Nov 10 and the merchandise here shortly after. Bonnie – Yearend feedback from the parents was both positive and negative about the Stop and Shop. Requests were made to limit items to $3-4 dollars vs. more expensive. $1, $2, $3 tables. Potentially can put the more expensive items out when parents are here to help with the kids. Last year the less expensive items went quickly. If the price point stays consistent then the kids will be on more equal paying field. 16 Staff Funding Requests Elsa 5 min Notes: Sensory room items – Wendy Romeo and Joe Armstrong to review the list and provide the exact items to purchase now that we have a new larger sensory room we can fit more items. Some possible items include: Platform swing 398.75 and rotational device $136. Fatboy Original – Weighted blanket Jr. Giant mega sand timer. Rocking bowl O-balls Total amount $1360 for everything. Supplier was FDMT. Natasha - Pet beds and tents are an option. Pet beds provide a place for the kids to read and relax. She also mentioned a triangle trampoline that plays music that would make a good addition. Bonnie – has suggested a budget of $1500.00 for the sensory items selected. No funding requests at this time from the teacher’s. Elsa motioned for $376.90 spent on the art supplies + tax & shipping. The school will order and Home and School will reimburse them. Tricia/Joyce 5 min Notes: FES Hands 5 Fairvale Home and School Meeting Summary Surveillance system – Signage and cameras. Ashley is checking on the legalities of camera surveillance of the school playground for after hours. School does own the land beyond the playing field. A local gentleman suggested the land could be used as a parking lot but the newly decreased school population should address many of our congestion issues. Elsa – suggested their used to be lights on the playground.
