These changes are proposed in an effort to update the above mentioned degrees and certificate program based on accreditation needs, input from the advisory board, and student & faculty input. It is also anticipated that these changes will generate new interest in the offerings and increase enrollment. No additional faculty would be required to execute these changes. This is due to the fact that courses for the MSTS concentration in Manufacturing Systems and Quality Systems which are presently being offered on a yearly basis will be changed to a three semester basis. The proposed 3-semester rotation for courses is shown below. This will allow offering two new additional courses to the students, as well as increase the number of students per course. Also, one course, ITEC 6101 which is no longer needed based on the present curriculum is being deleted. LEAN SIX-SIGMA BLACK BELT (LSSBB) CERTIFICATE: It is proposed to change the name of the Lean Six-Sigma Certificate to Lean SixSigma Black Belt (LSSBB) Certificate. The following universities use the name “Black-Belt” in their Lean Six-Sigma certificate, and hence it is proposed that we also do so as it is a term that is widely used and accepted by industry participants who will be pursuing this certificate: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) University of Michigan Rutgers University Emory University University of Tennessee Ohio State University 6) 7) 8) 9) 10) Portland State University University of Colorado Cal State University—Fullerton University of Wisconsin—Madison Villanova University The students will complete the following courses for 12 s.h.: ITEC 6110, 6112, 6501 & 6600, and will choose 3 s.h. from the following courses for earning the certification: ITEC 6002 and 6005. Some courses do have prerequisites that may be waived by the program coordinator based on student’s background. The courses are scheduled to allow completion of the certificate program in 18 months. External transfer hours will not be accepted in the certificate program. If a student chooses to pursue the LSSBB certificate jointly with the MSTS degree with concentration in either Manufacturing Systems or Quality Systems, a maximum credit of 6 s.h. will be allowed to be used toward the LSSBB certificate. Students will be responsible for finding and structuring the project. 4. COURSE CHANGES a. ITEC 6001: Change title and catalog description. It is proposed to change the title from Process Analysis and Change Initiatives to Technology Process Change Management. The new description for the course is shown in the Course Proposal Form attached herewith. This change is undertaken based on faculty and student input to allow holistic treatment of the entire topic of process change management in this course. b. ITEC 6002: Change catalog description. Title will stay as Lean Manufacturing. The new description for the course is shown in the Course Proposal Form attached herewith. This is being done to reflect the changing nature of the course in conjunction with changes proposed in ITEC 6003 below. c. ITEC 6003: Change title and catalog description. It is proposed to change the title from Advanced Lean Techniques to Production Planning and Inventory Management. This is required based on faculty experience teaching ITEC 6002 and ITEC 6003. ITEC 6002 covers all of the Lean principles for manufacturing systems as shown above, and it was recommended by the faculty to not have a second course in Advanced Lean Techniques. In place of the old curriculum, it was decided that the students will be better served learning the principles of production and inventory management in a Lean environment. The new description for the course is shown in the Course Proposal Form attached herewith. d. ITEC 6110: Change title and catalog description. It is proposed to change the title from Data and Trend Analysis for Quality to Quality Planning and Analysis. The new description for the course is shown in the Course Proposal Form attached herewith. This change is undertaken based on faculty and student input as to what a graduate in quality systems should know. e. ITEC 6112: Change title and catalog description. It is proposed to change the title from Statistical Analysis for Quality to Design of Experiments for Products and Processes. This change is undertaken based on faculty and student input. The new description for the course is shown in the Course Proposal Form attached herewith. f. ITEC 6600: Change pre-requisite only. It is proposed to add consent of instructor to the pre-requisite requirement to allow students who are only taking courses toward the lean six-sigma certificate to take this course without taking ITEC 6050 East Carolina University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina.
