Community Partners Committee: Creating a Community Calendar within the city of Menifee for non-profits to partner with during the upcoming Holiday Season. The City is undergoing a new web site design for all non-profits to utilize and list their events. "Just Serve" website is up and running. This website is backed by the City for all communities partners to list their volunteer needs. You may post needs like a "Help Wanted" billboard. 5. SOURCEBOOK: Response to Concerns Fellow Board MembersForgive me for asking the following questions so late in the process, but I need some clarification. What is our goal for this publication? a. Is this to promote our Chamber? This is the Directory which we approved to do in our Annual Budget. Instead of doing it with the company we used last year, where we had all the problems. We picked a Local Company that we all ready do business with and is a chamber member, to produce our Annual Directory. Valley News has agreed to create a customdesigned and inviting publication of the highest quality. This will be filled with very colorful and editorial content. Including City information, relocation information and of course the emphasis on our chamber members. The name on the magazine will be "Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce Sourcebook" Due to the popularity in Fallbrook with this like publication--I felt "Sourcebook" was a better word then "Directory" b. Are we using this as a source of revenue for the chamber? If so how much are we projected to make? We will...$5000 from the City, which is part of our MOU. Which we agreed to include all City of Menifee Business Licensee. c. Are we using it as a service to our members? Yes--all members will have a free listing, giving them more value for their membership. With the relocation package and the 10,000 distribution in our community again members will receive the additional recognition they so deserve. Next, who is our audience? a. If we are using this to promote Chamber membership to businesses in and around Menifee, do we need this? It’s a small enough audience to market directly to them. The Chamber is one of the biggest distributor of the phone book. I believe there is still a need for print media. Maybe not for long, but currently we still give away and have a need for maps???? Valley News has also agreed to design our map for the beginning of next year. b. If we are promoting our members’ businesses to residents of Menifee, this might be a good method among many, but how do we get it in the hands of residents? What’s the method of distribution? We will be using the Valley news to distribute to businesses and Laurianna crew to distribute to homeowners...seems to be a good idea to use her crew as it is more cost efficient for the Chamber. Lastly, is this the right tactic? No, print ain’t dead yet, but like anything else, we have to ask if we are getting the best bang for the buck. a. Is the content so compelling that people will want to buy this and wade through the ads to read whatever is in it? As fast as our community is growing and the citizens are getting excited about new businesses coming into town the Valley News writers will be covering new business as well as existing business, history and our new vision to move forward with our community. The magazine is a free publication to our community members. b. What is the project circulation and penetration numbers? printing 15,000. delivering 10,000 to homeowners the rest will be distributed at the chamber mixers, birthday bash, candidate forum, state of the city, Ambassador Rally, Dr. offices, dental offices, real estate offices, chamber and city, restaurants, pubs, gas stations, etc. A magazine of this type tends to land in the office or home and then sticks around for a while, particularly if it can be used as a local reference guide and if the content is worth reading, so the number of eyes reading this tends to be surprisingly high. 6. SCORE-Certified Mike Fisher is in the Chamber on the 2nd Monday for approximately 4 hours of each month for schedule face to face mentoring appointments. August 11th 4 appointments. 7. SBDC-Business Consultant Karla Gonzalez is in the Chamber office every other Tuesday. Perris Lake High School’s Jeffrey Kelton is October’s Student of the Month. Jeffrey started out at Perris Lake as a shy student who struggled quite a bit in other schools. After attending at Perris Lake two years, he is now one of the most admired and respected students. Jeffrey shared that he realized that he needed to work harder to be able to succeed. Through his family’s support, and teachers encouragement at Perris Lake, he has taken the opportunities given and has turned them into successes. One way he has broken through his struggles is his love of basketball. This outlet has helped him in many ways to open up to others as well as keeping goals set. His basketball skills have become a main source of entertainment for everyone at Perris Lake. Jeffrey plans to attend Mt. San Jacinto College to study graphic design. Karina Contreras is Heritage High School’s Student of the Month. Karina, who was born two months premature, had a difficult start in life. However, her tenacity and passion for life has aided her in becoming one of the most outstanding students at Heritage. According to Principal, Julie Zierold, Karina always wants to help improve those around her. Karina shared that one of the biggest life lessons she has learned is that nothing in life is certain but the first stop is a good education. She currently takes a number of AP courses and is involved in various activities including sports and Relay for Life where she is event chair. Karina has applied to various colleges including UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, and UCLA where she plans to study homeopathic medicine and enter the medical field. Paloma Valley High School’s Student of the Month is Julia Rivera. Julia is described by Paloma Valley counselor, Pete Lopez, as an outstanding student as well as being polite, persistent, shy, and quiet. Julia shared that she was a bit fearful when she transitioned from private to public school during her middle school years. However, through playing basketball and injuring herself in her freshman year, she has had much support through friends and family during her recovery. Not only had Julia recovered she has mastered, and obtained, her black belt in martial arts, a sport that she is very passionate about. Julia is applying to a number of colleges including Stanford, UC Berkeley, and UCLA to obtain her degree in environmental engineering. All of these students demonstrated a desire to work hard and have a drive to exceed others and their own expectations. The Perris Valley Chamber and the Menifee Valley Chamber wish them the best in their endeavors.
