Attitudes toward project management
People differ in terms of perceptions about project
management.
Some view project management negatively
Some people see it as being hard and tiresome.
Most people do not like manning of projects
Others consider project management to be a slow, tiresome
and boring subject
With such negativity, achieving the set goal is quite hard (Field
& Keller,1998).

Cultural differences
Cultural differences can act negatively towards a
project’s success
Cultural differences often lead to conflicts and
disagreements
These differences can even cause the members to
diverge from the set goals due to the disagreements
Africans for example, hold different cultural beliefs
from the westerners and this can lead to conflicts
(Nagarajan, 2005).

Varying priorities
People with different priorities apart from the set ones, seem to lag
behind projects
Different priorities lead to difference in goals to be achieved
When working on a project, group members are supposed to hold the
same priorities in order to accomplish their goals successfully.
When priorities are different within the members, it generally causes a
division which affects the progress of the project
Varying priorities within the members of a group working on a common
project, have the effect of diverting the members from the main goals to
be achieved and often causes conflicts (Nagarajan, 2005).
Barriers to the success of a project
• Various factors may be considered as barriers
to the success of a project. These include the
following;
• Attitudes toward project
• Cultural differences
• Varying priorities
• Ambiguity of the project (Field & Keller,1998).

Ambiguity of the project
Projects are said to be ambiguous when the group/team
member do not have a clear idea of what their role is
towards achieving the set goals.
There is a lot of time wastage due to ambiguity
There is also a lot of wastage in terms of resources and
this occurs especially when different people find
themselves doing the same thing
Role ambiguity causes confusion among the members
It generally lags behind the progress of the project
(Nagarajan, 2005).
Logistical barriers
• Inadequate resources
• Over utilized resources that cannot be useful
in achieving the needed project goals
• Poor transport systems
• Lack of the required information for carrying
out projects
• Poor planning by the logistics manager
(Nagarajan, 2005).
