If I didn't get a chance to talk to you and you were there, I apologize. It felt like a whirlwind! I want to make myself as available as possible this year if you ever feel the need to chat, so please don't hesitate to call, text, e-mail, or come in to the classroom. I've fallen a bit behind in replying to some of you due to my current schedule, but I hope to get bacl to you soon if you've left me a voicemail or sent me an e-mail in the past week. Next week your child will have Social Studies in Mrs. Graves' class. Normally, Mrs. Graves would be there to introduce herself, but many of you heard she is out on medical leave. She hopes to be back in the classroom shortly, but in the meantime, I will correspond with her by e-mail if you have questions about Social Studies. Also, next Tuesday our class is taking its first field trip to Calypso Farms as part of our insect study. We are going rain or shine, so please make sure your child is dressed ready for water or cold weather if that is the case. I've begun adding photos to our classroom's private Google+ Community page. If you wanted to have access, please send me your gmail address and I will send you an invite. This page is a quick and easy way to communicate with myself and other parents, and to also see what's going on in the classroom! Click this link to check it out: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/103749154858755760069 Finally, our school is partnering with Girls on the Run of Greater Alaska to offer a local program here at Pearl Creek this semester! Girls on the Run will be offered after school for female students in grades 3-5. Over a 12 week period, beginning Sept. 8, the girls will meet after school and learn life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The Girls on the Run program will offer girls an opportunity to make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique. The participants will train together to complete a 5k which gives them the confidence that comes from accomplishment and goal setting. We are currently accepting applications; fifteen girls will be chosen through a lottery process. While there is a fee of $100 to participate, there are opportunities for scholarships. You may also register online at http://www.gotrgreateralaska.org. Please contact Kjersten Bartusch at 479-4234 ext 2 with questions or for an application.
