The Accounting Best Practices: Billing & Collections Survey is the first in a three-part series examining accounting practices that affect financial process performance and efficiency: • Series 1: Billing & Collections • Series 2: Procurement to Payment • Series 3: Budget and Accounting The Billing & Collections Survey collects information about AMS/CRM/Donor system capabilities, billing processes and responsibilities, collections practices (including credit card processing procedures), and posting methods. © Tate & Tryon 2014 The survey was conducted online in November and December 2013 and 92 survey submissions were received, including: • 64 professional/trade organizations • 16 philanthropic/charity organizations • 9 educational organizations • 3 nonprofits self-classified as “other” Approximately one-third (35%) of responding organizations have annual revenue of $20M or more. Nearly one-fourth (24%) have annual revenue less than $5M. How do you compare? The Billing & Collections Dashboard on slide 5 provides detailed survey results that can be filtered by organization type and size. Key Findings AMS/CRM • 73% say the AMS/CRM/Donor system is integrated with the website • 76% report non-financial data from the AMS/CRM/Donor system to management and/or the board Billing • 40% use three or more software solutions to process billing • 69% say the finance department is at least partially involved in member/donor/customer billing Collections • 53% receive more than half of overall revenue by check (rather than electronically) • 65% use remote deposit Credit Cards • 89% say their credit card process is PCI compliant • 29% are dissatisfied with the time required to reconcile credit card transactions with AMS reports and/or the bank statement Posting © Tate & Tryon 2014 • 80% primarily post billing and collections information to the general ledger in batches • 70% manually enter the majority of cash receipts into the AMS/CRM/Donor system How to use the dashboard on the next slide Navigate through survey topics using the tabs at the top of the dashboard. © Tate & Tryon 2014 Filter the data using the two drop-down menus at the top of each tab.
