VERNON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL
Vernon Township High School is a four year comprehensive school that serves over 1000 students and is accredited
by the NJ Department of Education. In addition to Honors/AP and College Preparatory programs students may also
elect to pursue their interests in program sequences in Business, Fine and Performing Arts, Technical and Culinary
Arts, and Consumer Sciences. Students may also choose to enroll in concurrent college level courses through
Fairleigh Dickinson University, Seton Hall University, Syracuse University, and Sussex County Community
College.
PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION
Classes meet 45 minutes daily. Full year courses are valued at 5 credits, lab science courses at 6 credits and
semester courses at 2.5 credits. Graduation requires a minimum of 125 credits.

GRADING SYSTEM
Numeric average and class rank are calculated using all students and all subjects. There are 4 levels for most
courses offered: Standard, College Preparatory, Honors and Advanced Placement. To determine class rank,
General Level classes are calculated by a factor of 1.0, College Prep classes are enhanced by a factor of 1.02,
Honors classes are enhanced by a factor of 1.06, and Advanced Placement classes are enhanced by a factor of 1.09.
