Create a puzzle with Puzzlemaker
What is puzzlemaker?
Puzzlemaker is a puzzle tool in which you can create and print
customized word search, criss-cross, math puzzles, and more using your own word lists. Luckily, there is no need to create an
account; it is free of charge and a very simple tool to use
How to use Puzzlemaker:
1) Go to the Discovery Education site by clicking on
http://www.discoveryeducation.com/ . Click on “Teachers” and
then select the “puzzlemaker” option. You may choose many types
of puzzles. This is how it looks like:
2) Let´s try the “Word Cross” option. In order to create the puzzle,
you will have to follow some steps. First, you have to write a title
3. Then, you have to select the size of the letters that your puzzle will
have
4. Next, you have to choose whether the letters of your words will be
shared or not
5. Then, choose the type of output that your puzzle will have
6. After that, you write the words you want to include in the puzzle.
Remember to separate the words
7. Finally, check that you included all the words you wanted to write and
press the “Create My Puzzle” button
8. In a blink of an eye, you will have your puzzle done for you! You can
click on “solution” to see the answers and you can also print the page if
you want.
Working with Puzzlemaker
Age: 10-12
Level: Elementary
You will work with Discovery Education to make a puzzle. In groups you
will work on the classification of animals. Each group will be assigned a
type of animal (mammal, reptile, amphibian, bird, etc.). They will have
to prepare an oral presentation explaining the main characteristics of
the type of animal and a puzzle (criss-cross, word cross, double puzzle,
etc) including vocabulary related to the topic.

c) Appropriate use of the tool
Puzzles are great for kids because they train their brain to problem
solve. Puzzles and puzzle games help reinforce logic, critical thinking,
visualization, creativity and fine motor skills. Furthermore, they have
fun and enjoy a great activity.
