Horizontal Projectile (video analysis) –
Directions: Insert the Video of the horizontal projectile. Click the video forward until the ball is on the edge of the table
then set the graph time to 0 and leave the video time alone. Preform video analysis.
Loggerpro – options
To add a graph: Click Insert – graph
To see all graphs, video and data at once: Click Page – Auto arrange
To change graph axes: left click the axis you want to change – all you choices will come up – choose one
To change the graph scale: left click the max or min value and type in the value you want
To find the slope of a graph: click on the graph and drag the gray shade over the area you want
to take the slope of. Then click the linear fit button
Complete the following in your graphing notebook
Sketch the graph for Y vs t - how does this graph compare to the Y vs t graph you did for a freely falling object?
Looking at the Y vs t graph, is the projectile accelerating in the vertical direction? Justify your answer
Sketch the graph for X vs t
Looking at the X vs t graph, is the projectile accelerating in the horizontal direction? Justify your answer
Sketch the graph for Vy vs t - how does this graph compare to the velocity time graph you did for a freely falling object?
What is the initial vertical velocity (vy)?
What is the final vertical velocity (vy)?
What is the acceleration in the vertical (y) direction?
Sketch the graph for Vx vs t ***Make sure you set the scale for Vx as 0 to 5 – otherwise you will get a crazy looking
graph****
What is the initial horizontal velocity (vx)?
What is the final horizontal velocity (vx)?
What is the acceleration in the horizontal (x) direction?
What is the final velocity of the projectile as it hits the ground (Hint: you have a value for both Vx and Vy so you will have
to use Pythagorean’s theorem)
How does the vertical time for the projectile compare to the horizontal time for the same projectile
Calculate the height of the table
Calculate the horizontal distance of the ball from the base of the table.
Horizontal projectile
Directions: Use the horizontal projectile set up and what you learned from the video analysis to determine the following
