Introduction
The Organising Committee of Vision 2014, the 11th International Conference on Low
Vision, is proud to announce that the conference will be held in Melbourne, Australia from
31 March 2014 – 3 April 2014.
Vision 2014 is being hosted by Vision Australia on behalf of the International Society for
Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation, and has the support of the Melbourne Visitors
and Convention Bureau and the City of Melbourne.
Vision Australia works in partnership with Australians who are blind or have low vision to
help them achieve the possibilities they choose in life.
A not-for-profit organisation with a proud history stretching back almost one and a half
centuries through eight heritage organisations, Vision Australia is also a major innovator
and partner in the international blindness community.
Attendance
The conference will attract a high level of specialists, researchers, consumers and
decision makers in the field of low vision, which can be described as uncorrectable vision
impairment. A detailed marketing strategy, publicity schedule, media campaign and on-site
media liaison will be developed to ensure that the conference is extensively publicised
prior to, during and after the event.
With these marketing initiatives and historical data on previous conferences, the
Conference Organising Committee expects to attract in excess of 1000 delegates.
Why you should be interested
Vision 2014 will be a hallmark event in low vision worldwide. The International Conference
on Low Vision is a global conference, held only once every three years. Vision 2014 is the
11th conference, with previous conferences having been held in Kuala Lumpur (2011),
Montreal (2008), London (2005) and Gothenburg Sweden (2002).
It offers a rare and valuable platform for you to interact with an international group of
leading researchers and clinicians practising in the field of low vision: ophthalmologists,
optometrists, other clinical practitioners, researchers and consumers.
Together with the scientific program, world-class venue, and facilities, Vision 2014 will be
held in Melbourne Australia – the ideal destination for conferences and exhibitions.
Research undertaken by the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau demonstrates

The conference
About the program
The Vision 2014 conference program and content will be structured around the conference
theme: Advancing Research, Upgrading Practice, Improving Participation.
The Vision 2014 conference program will be everything you’d expect of a world meeting,
with a quality and range that will be of interest and benefit to everyone in the field: from
researchers and practitioners working at leading centres in well-resourced nations, to
those working on the ground in developing nations.
A leading scientific program
The scientific program will consist of symposia and session themes, courses and
workshops (didactic, interactive, hands-on), demonstrations, posters and poster
presentations. Importantly, the scientific program will span the latest developments and
best practice in the area of low vision and will be delivered by renowned international,
national and local speakers.
Eminent researchers and practitioners are coming together to form an International
Scientific Committee which will ensure a very high standard of scientific content. Under the
leadership of Jan Lovie-Kitchin, Professor of Optometry and well-known researcher and
low vision practitioner, the International Scientific Committee will review all papers,
workshops, presentations, and posters submitted for acceptance by the conference.
Industry program
In a first for the International Conference in Low Vision, Vision 2014 will include an industry
program for sponsors and industry players to deliver presentations within the body of the
conference program.

venue. This service is invaluable to delegates in such a large conference and has a high
visibility component. It is visited regularly by the majority of delegates. It will also be the
central point for delegates to register and receive latest on-site information.
