Sources for Transportation Quotes American Airlines currently employs Worldwide Freight Management (WFM) to broker transportation services. WFM is a local transportation management company that seeks out the most competitive carriers for required service levels. WFM is a subsidiary of Worldwide Flight Services. Prior to April 1999 these companies were underneath the AMR umbrella. Section II provides the contact information for WFM personnel. Commodity Managers are expected to manage the transportation aspect of their desk. The following information is provided to assist in this process. To obtain transportation quotes from WFM or other suppliers, certain specific information is required. The following pages, Section IA (WFM) / Section IB (other firms), contain templates for gathering this information. Please note that the Commodity Manager is responsible for ensuring the competitiveness of the transportation element. Section II, Logistics Sources, provides the contact information for several companies. If the transportation cost component is in excess of the CM’s signing authority level, it is recommended that you consult with a Commodity Manager responsible for distribution services. Other transportation alternatives also exist via FedEx and Comat. AA has negotiated favorable interline rates with FedEx while COMAT is the movement of company material on company aircraft. These methods are detailed in Sections IV and V. A valid FedEx account number must be included on the shipment to qualify. Otherwise, AA is charged the full amount, rather than the 75% discounted interline rate. International shipments have one service level. Domestic shipments may have three. Interline rates apply only to shipments less than or equal to 500 pounds. Limits apply to the size and dimensions of these shipments. Lightweight, high cube shipments do not qualify for this program. If possible, 2nd day service should be utilized, as these rates are approximately 60% less than priority overnight and 30% less than standard overnight. International shipments incur customs and duty fees that are billed separately from the freight charge. 6 FedEx Rate Schedule (Per pound) Weight (Lbs.)
