Class participation
Class attendance is key to succeed in this class, and it is also an important part of your
grade. Participation is essential in learning a foreign language! You will be
expected to arrive on time and to fully engage in all class activities, including the
daily practice for the final oral exam. In class, we will review and practice the new
grammar and vocabulary of each chapter, we will discuss the cultural materials and
videos, watch the Fotonovela episodes and practice speaking and listening to Spanish.
And, remember that, in accordance with college policy, you can be dropped for
“excessive absence” (8 class meetings in a class that meets twice a week).
Academic Honesty:
According to college policy, if a student is discovered cheating the instructor should
file an academic dishonesty report and fail that exam or assignment or even the entire
course for everyone involved in the incident.
Extra Credit:
To get extra credit complete the activities assigned in the Vistas Maestro Supersite
(up to 70 points.) You can also watch a movie in Spanish and submit the assignments
provided (up to 3 movies, and up to 10 points per movie)
Tips:
-
-
-
-
COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY and be as well prepared as possible. Try not to
miss any class session! It will be much harder to try to catch up on your own!
And remember: your participation grade is an important part of your final grade.
Keep up with the exercises in the Workbook/Video and Lab Manual. Do all the
assigned section on a daily basis. Study the corresponding section in your
textbook first, then move on to the exercises in your electronic workbook
(WEBSAM.) Make sure you use ALL YOUR ATTEMPTS and check your
feedback. If you do not understand why you got it wrong, don’t forget to ask me
in class.
Turn in all your homework on time. It is 15 per cent of your grade and it is also
the best way to review and practice before each chapter exam.
Make sure you work with your practice exams and don’t miss the review
sessions before every chapter exam.
Don’t hesitate to ask questions in, before, or after class and visit me during office
hours.
Make friends with your classmates and exchange phone numbers. Learning
Spanish will be more fun and you will have somebody to help you catch up if you
have to miss a class.
Explore radio, television, music, movies, and magazines in Spanish, try to select
topics that interest you, and enjoy learning a new language!
¡Bienvenidos a clase y muy buena suerte!
