Job Title: Vice President, Collective Impact & Social Innovation Department: Collective Impact and Social Innovation Reports to: President & Chief Executive Officer Status: Exempt, Full-Time Date: December 1, 2015 Primary Responsibilities: Plans, develops and leads United Way’s Collective Impact efforts in Southern Nevada. Effectively collaborates with and leads a diverse set of organizations and individuals to attempt to solve the most pressing social challenges in our community. Drives the public dialogue about community challenges and solutions through the use and publishing of relevant research and data. Leads the United Way effort to identify and acquire funding from local and national foundations and governments for Collective Impact and Social Innovation efforts. Fosters an internal and external culture of transparency, honesty, innovation, entrepreneurship, measurement, and continual improvement. Essential Duties: Leadership 1. Provide clear leadership for United Way’s Collective Impact efforts, including identifying top talent, mentoring and supervising staff effectively; ability to execute a strategic plan; and a general ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage effectively. 2. Work with diverse stakeholders to develop infrastructure and ideas that improve the quality of life in Southern Nevada 3. Facilitate improved use of performance measurement and best practices throughout our community 4. Researches and proposes domestic and international public policy and advocacy strategies that can help to solve community problems 5. Develop and lead United Way’s strategy to ensure that evidence gets used and applied by decision-makers 6. Advise or work with a Marketing team on the content and design of policy publications 7. Working with a Research network, identify and prioritize demonstrated solutions for the region to promote at a statewide and regional level, and develop and lead the implementation of strategies to get these ideas adopted and scaled. Communication, Collaboration, and Policy Outreach 8. Promote exchange and collaboration between academics, policy makers, community partners, and (international) development professionals. 9. Engage decision-makers effectively in the generation of evidence and strengthen the Community’s capacity to translate evidence into practice and policy. Ensure that evidence is used and applied at scale by decision-makers (including practitioners, policy makers and funders). 10. Raise resources from local and national foundations, governments and funders to develop/support of the work of United Way’s Collective Impact efforts. 11. Help develop strategic partnerships with global organizations that have the potential to lead to the scale-up of demonstrated ideas 12. Help to build the capacity of community partners to develop and implement policy engagement strategies 1 Research Management and Facilitation 13. Draw upon experience conducting quantitative economics research (including randomized evaluations) to facilitate the development of new research projects. 14. Facilitate the roll out of region-wide pilots and programs 15. Conduct an ambitious slate of trials within several topic areas, in order to discover new and effective mechanisms for solving community and social issues in Southern Nevada. 16. Manage a portfolio of strategic evaluations to assure that the evaluations provide quality, useful and timely information 17. Lead and/or assist in the development of initiative reports to document, communicate and amplify initiative results and learnings. 18. Establish shared measurement practices by developing an evaluation, accountability, and continuous improvement framework 19. Assess and respond to the changing landscape of social challenges in Southern Nevada by tracking key research and statistics, as well as ongoing communication with community partners to understand trends on the ground. Secondary Duties: Performs related duties as required. Supervisory Responsibility: The incumbent in this position is responsible for supervising a team of Collective Impact, research, and IT professionals. Environment: The environment for this position is in an office that is clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. In addition, the incumbent will travel via personal vehicle or public transportation to client sites, workplace events, meetings, etc. Physical Activity: In the course of performing this work, the incumbent: Will spend substantial time standing, sitting, speaking and listening. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Demonstrated ability to tactfully handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and respect and observe organizational protocol. A professional appearance and demeanor. Valid Nevada Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance coverage and daily access to a personal vehicle. Ability to travel to work in a variety of locations throughout Southern Nevada and other parts of the State, as needed. These requirements are met by any combination of education that typically includes a Master’s Degree in economics or related degree from a top research Institution; Social Intervention and Community research and measurement experience is preferred with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible community research and analytics leadership and experience, preferably with United Way. The right combination of education and/or relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of these requirements. 3
