Integrating new courses into the continuing student’s curriculum.
From Spring 2005 to Spring 2006, a total of eight new courses will have been added to the curriculum
and six removed. For students who started their civil engineering program before Spring 2005 (that is,
before the changes were introduced), this memo explains how they should adjust their programs.
(Students who started their CE program in Fall 2005 or later must follow the new program. This
memo is not directed to them.)
The new courses are:
CE 31600 Civil Engineering Decision and Systems Analysis
CE 32600 Transportation Planning
CE 32700 Transportation Systems Engineering
CE 36500 Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering
CE 37200
CE 40500
CE 47400
CE 50900
Environmental Impact Assessment
Civil Engineering Management
Environmental Engineering
Senior Design Project
The courses that have been removed from the curriculum are:
ENGR 10200, ENGR 27600, EAS 21300, CE 36100, CE 37500, CE 38000, CE 39100. If you are on
the old curriculum and have not taken all of these courses, see the table for how your program should
be adjusted..
Situation
Student has had ENGR 10200 but NOT CE 391
Student has NOT had ENGR 276
Student has NOT had CE 391
Student has NOT had CE 361
Student has NOT had CE 375
Student has NOT had CE 380
Solution
Will graduate with an extra credit by taking CE 405
(3cr) instead of CE 391 (2cr)
Take CE 316 in lieu of 276
Take CE 405 in lieu of 391
Take CE 365 in lieu of 361
Take either CE 326 or CE 327 in lieu of 375
Take CE 372 in lieu of 380
Students who have already taken CE 391 may take CE 405 as a technical an elective.
Students in the environmental/water resources specialization who have taken CE 380 before Fall 2004, will need
to take CE 372. However, it will be counted as a specialization elective.
Students in the environmental/water resources specialization who have not taken CE 380, will need to take CE
372 and CE 474. However, CE 474 will be counted as a specialization elective
Students in the transportation specialization will be required to take both CE 32600 and CE 32700. However,
one of them will be counted as a specialization elective.
Students on the previous curriculum are encouraged to take CE 50900 (Senior Design Project) as a
specialization elective.
Students who are using substitute prerequisites listed above will have to register for the relevant
courses in person. No other prerequisite substitutions will be allowed.
