Program Review of the Associate in Arts Program in
The Liberal Arts at Kaua`i Community College
II. Program Description
The Liberal Arts program is described on pages 67-8 of the on-line College
Catalog http://www.kauaicc.hawaii.edu/catalog_04/index.htm. It is designed to be a twoyear program comprising 60 credits. The core requirements include six credits in
communication (written and oral), three credits of quantitative reasoning, and six credits
of World Civilizations. Three courses in the humanities, three in the social sciences and
three in the sciences (including at least one with a lab) comprise the area requirements.
The remaining 14 to 17 credits are made up of electives, although Hawaiian or courses in
another foreign language are recommended for students planning to transfer to a fouryear college or university. (See the College Catalog for more specifics.)
The Liberal Arts program on the Kaua`i Community College campus is taught
primarily by faculty from two divisions: the Science, Social Science and Math division
(SAM) and the Language, Arts and Humanities division (LAH). Occasionally an
instructor from another division such as Business Education (ECON 130), Student
Services (SSCI 101 or 113) or support Services (CASE 193) will teach a Liberal Arts
course.
