Samuel Adams and Thomas Jefferson expressed opposite opinions in the aftermath of Shay’s Rebellion.
Adams said: “Rebellion against a king may be pardoned or lightly punished, but the man who dares to
rebel against the laws of a republic ought to suffer death.”
Jefferson said: “A little rebellion now and then is a good thing. It is a medicine necessary for the sound
health of a government. God forbid that we should ever be without twenty years without such a
rebellion.”
1. After watching the movie (in class), which side do you agree with? Support your answer using evidence from
the movie.
