If you feel that you are eligible to apply for any of the scholarships, pick up an application in the Guidance Office from the Scholarship Table or access the listed website. If you are unable to find an application, notify the Guidance Office for assistance. READ THE BULLETINS CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS -- IF THERE ARE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS AND THE BULLETIN DIRECTIONS, CHECK IN GUIDANCE FOR CLARIFICATION. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAILING THEIR OWN APPLICATIONS, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED ON THIS BULLETIN. TIPS: Many local scholarship organizations suggest additional attachments to their applications. The following items are usually suggested and should be prepared in advance and be available to attach to your applications: 1. One to three letters of recommendation (may be from a teacher, coach, counselor, employer, or church / community member familiar with you and your community activities, etc.)(Ask permission to copy letters and keep them in a file) 2. Resume of your activities, awards, accomplishments, and community service throughout high school.(Make copies and keep them in a file) 3. Essay (brief, one-page) outlining your goals for the future and how your family will be impacted if you do not receive any financial help for college. (Keep on your computer ….ready to adjust for each scholarship application need) 4. Transcript – If your scholarship application is to be turned in to the Guidance Office, the transcript will be attached for you. If your application is to be mailed/submitted by you, complete a transcript request form and allow 2 – 3 days for processing. www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org - It is time to apply for Florida Bright Futures Scholarships. Applications must be completed as soon as possible, even if you are planning to retake the ACT or SAT. Your application will be automatically updated with your new scores. www.fafsa.gov - Federal Financial Aid application. Apply for your pin number and submit your application as soon as possible. Check with your college for deadlines. (Info sheets available in Guidance) 1. USA Funds – Access to Education Scholarships - $1,500 awards (renewable) Open to students with a family income of $35,000 or less on a documented 2009 federal income tax return. At least 50% of the awards will be targeted to minority and/or disabled students. Applications will be accepted online until February 15, 2010 at www.usafunds.org 2. Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges (FAPSC) – www.fapsc.org – Scholarship Multiple awards through participating* Florida colleges and schools. *Please check on-line to see if your school is listed. Application deadline is March 12, 2010. 3. Best Buy Dollars for Scholars Community Volunteer Service Awards Program – www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com Application deadline is February 15, 2010. 4. Hernando Civic Club – $500 Open to any senior planning to attend college. Preference given to a Hernando resident. Applications due in Guidance no later than February 26, 2010. 5. American Irish Club of West Citrus – Undetermined amount. Brief personal essay required. Application due in Guidance no later than March 9, 2010. 6. Citrus County Shooting Club – Up to $1,000 scholarship - Preference to a Citrus County graduate planning to pursue a career in the law enforcement field. Must have: 3 letters of recommendation; Letter of acceptance to college/university; Essay - Two full pages – IN YOUR OWN WORDS – “What the Second Amendment to the Constitution means to me.” Applications are due in Guidance no later than 3/25/2010. 7. Operation Progress – John Coughlin Memorial – Must have 3.0 GPA or higher and plan to attend a 4-yr. University. Application due in Guidance no later than March 12, 2010. 8. First United Methodist Church, Homosassa - $1,000 Preference may be given to applicants from Homosassa and Chassahowitzka seeking college degrees in education and pursuing teaching careers. Completed applications are due in Guidance no later than April 1, 2010. 9. William J. English Memorial Scholarship - www.faeds.org One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded for the current academic year to a selected high school or vocational school senior who is planning to attend a Florida public or private college and who is planning to major in computer science and/or information technology related field. Deadline is February 15th for the academic year beginning with Fall Term. 10. Imagine Your Future in Agriculture – 100 awards nationwide $1,500.00 to a senior who comes from a farm family and plans to pursue a career in the field of agriculture. www.monsanto.com & www.nafb.com for applications. Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarships February 16, 2010. www.rmhc.org Application deadline is RMHC/ASIA: Applicant must have at least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage RMHC/African American Future Achievers: Applicant must have at least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage RMHC/HACER: Applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage RMHC Scholars: ALL students can apply regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin. 13. Riverhaven Garden Club - Preference will be given to students planning to major in agriculture, horticulture, or some related field, BUT all applications will be accepted. Completed applications are due in Guidance March 19, 2010. 17. Crystal River Little League – for students who completed five seasons as a player in Crystal River Little League. Student to mail. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 12, 2010. 18. Altrusa Club of Citrus County – Open to any senior planning to attend college. Applications are due in Guidance no later than March 9, 2010. 19. Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WREC) – Multiple awards of $750 per semester (renewable) to dependents of Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. members who have lived within the service area of WREC for at least one year prior to December 31st. Student must have maintained a minimum 2.0 G.P.A., and plan to attend a FLORIDA college full time. Completed applications are due to WREC Educational Foundation no later than March 5, 2010. 20. Citrus County School Food Service Assoc. – preference given to student who will study food/nutrition, but all applications accepted. Completed applications are due in Guidance not later than March 22, 2010. 21. Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award (SAMMY 2010) – Multiple $7,500 awards nationwide to recognize outstanding scholar athletes Students must apply on-line at www.bodybymilk.com Applications must be received by March 5, 2010. 22. F.A.S.F.E.P.A. - $1,000 for student entering studies in the Field of Arts or Sciences in Education. (Teaching or Administration) Completed applications are due in Guidance not later than 2/26/10. 23.
