Why are social interactions and social life presupposed as a context for every conceptual representation; scientific or otherwise? How are the rules of language and culture structured in social life, in the “languagegame”? How are beliefs, social imagination and social consciousness formed in social life, in the language and culture systems of human beings. The impact of language and learning on human consciousness and imagination. Rules of language and paradigms of thinking and imagining. The meaning of history and historical changes with changing paradigms. COURSE PSY 303 RESEARCH METHODS AND DATA ANALYSIS IN PSYCHOLOGY II (3 - 0) 3 This course is designed to integrate research theory (previously learned in PSY 202), statistics and computer usage to conduct a research and analyse data. The logic of measurement; validity, reliability, levels of measurement and units of analysis; scale development process; application and data collection; preparation of data sets for analysing data using SPSS software; conducting univariate analysis (descriptive) in SPSS; bivariate analysis; interpreting data and report writing. COURSE CONTENT PSY 504 PSYCHOPATHOLOGY (3 - 0) 3 This course covers most of the major psychiatric diagnoses currently in use and theories about their probable causes. The history of treatment of the mentally ill; the terminology of psychopathology; the broad classification system of DSM-IV; the various causes, symptoms, and treatments of the major mental disorders, including stress, anxiety, dissociative, somatoform, mood, personality, substance abuse, eating, sexual, schizophrenia, childhood, aging, and violence disorders; to the ethical issues involved in diagnosis; the discussion and the differentiation of the major schools of thought in psychology and their treatment/therapy approaches to the mental illnesses. COURSE CONTENT PSY 602 MODERN PERSPECTIVES IN PSYCHOLOGY (3 - 0) 3 This course will provide students to meet with modern perspectives in psychology as well as empirical findings for each perspectives; biological perspective, psychoanalytic perspective, behavioral perspective, cognitive perspective, humanistic perspective, evolutionary perpesctive, sociocultural perspective. COURSE CONTENT PSY 603 CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 - 0) 3 The goal of this course is to introduce the concepts and methods of clinical psychology including the fundamentals of abnormal psychology; clinical assessment; psychotherapy and professional activities of clinical psychologists. To provide students with an overview of the field of clinical psychology; historical roots and conceptual models in clinical psychology; professional issues in clinical psychology; assessment techniques used in clinical psychology; therapeutic approaches in clinical psychology. VII. SEMESTER COURSE CONTENT PSY 701 EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 - 0) 3 Experimental research methods, in addition non-experimental, descriptive research techniques. Among the many topics to be discussed are: the goals, assumptions, and requirements of science; the steps of the scientific method; ethics, experimental control and research design; sampling and generalization; hypothesis testing and statistical significance. An introduction to the historical roots and methods for the scientific study of human behavior with a special emphasis on proper experimental design and the highly critical evaluation of experimental results. Moreover, students will learn to evaluate and interpret their research and to communicate the findings in an effective manner through oral reports, written papers and poster presentations. COURSE PSY 703 PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT AND ASSESSMENT (3 - 0) 3 CONTENT The objective of the course is to develop the students information and abilities by introducing the basic intelligence and personality tests and materials. Theoretical and general principles of measurement and interpretation in clinical psychology will be elaborated in this course along with the theoretical origins of intelligence tests, personality tests, projective tests, development tests. Case studies, role plays, and in-class exercises will illustrate the principles of therapeutic change. The exercises often are experiential in that they encourage students to apply their own life experiences to various concepts discussed in class.
