On behalf of the Committee on Conventions, I am pleased to
invite you to attend the joint meetings of the 37th PCS Mid-year
Convention and the 18th Asian Congress of Surgery to be held in
the historic city of Cebu. This year’s theme is “Surgery in Asia
Amidst Global Challenges”.
As always, we have prepared a scientific program that will
present the major advances in surgery despite the global
challenges that the Asian surgeons encounter. The delegates
will learn current approaches in the management of surgical
diseases in the Asian region including innovations in the
management of common surgical diseases.
A good number of foreign delegates from our neighboring Asian
countries are expected to join us during this convention to learn
as well as enjoy the hospitality of the Filipinos and wonders of
Cebu City.
We are grateful to the Conventions Committee, the PCS-CebuEastern Visayas Chapter and the invaluable support of the local
government for ensuring the success of this Convention.
It is the time of the year when we meet together, along with
our families to engage not only in scientific but also in social
activities to promote camaraderie and academic pursuits.
Let us all see each other in Cebu for a scientific meeting full of
fun and wonderful experiences!
JOSEFINA R. ALMONTE, MD, FPCS
President
Philippine College of Surgeons
Maayong Pag-abot sa Sugbu!
Welcome to the Queen City of Southern Philippines, Cebu, the
landmark of the country’s Christian history.
This joint meeting of the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS)
37th Midyear Convention and the Asian Surgical Association
(ASA) 18th Asian Congress of Surgery will surely strengthen the
bond among Asian surgeons. A bond that should be kept,
maintained, and fortified.
The Committee has lined up
interesting and timely needed topics as we usher into new
dimension of asian surgical practice. This is in consonance with
the congress theme entitled “SURGERY IN ASIA AMIDST
GLOBAL CHALLENGES”.
I sincerely hope that this congress will be the impetus for
Asians to shine permanently and brightly in global surgery.
Enjoy your stay in Cebu and in the Philippines!!!
Go Asians! Go!

Message
Dear Colleagues and Friends:
We cordially invite you to join the 37th Midyear Convention of
the Philippine College of Surgeons and 18th Congress of the
Asian Surgical Association on May 12 to 14, 2011 in Cebu City,
Philippines.
The surgical practice in the last two years in Asia is obviously in
progress in spite of the economic crisis and tremendous
environment changes.
The congress will offer a good opportunity to share our ideas
and experiences. The theme of the Congress “Surgery in Asia
Amidst Global Challenges” will highlight the situation in Asia.
We can fully discuss the most optimal ways to develop in Asia.
Cebu City is a significant culture center in Philippines. I believe
you will enjoy the different life style in this beautiful City.
Once again, looking forward to seeing you in Cebu City in May.
Sincerely yours,
Po-Huang Lee M.D. Ph.D.
President
Asian Surgical Association
Message
In behalf of all the members of the Philippine College of
Surgeons, I take pleasure in inviting you to join us during the
37th Midyear Convention of the Philippine College of Surgeons
and the 18th Biennial Congress of the Asian Surgical Association
on May 12 to 14, 2011 in Cebu City, Philippines.
Cebu City is an island which is an hour away by plane south of
Manila. It has many tourists’ attractions and destinations which
make the city one of the favorite tourists’ destinations in the
Philippines and in Asia. Beautiful beach resorts, scuba diving
destinations, historical places and shopping centers are in
abundance. And if you are concerned about the travel, Cebu
City is easily accessible because many airlines offer direct flights
to the city from most major cities in Asia.
The theme of the congress “Surgery in Asia Amidst Global
Challenges” will highlight the important development in the
practice of surgery in the region in spite of the global economic
crises. Speakers within the region will present their experience
in managing common surgical conditions. The GB Ong, Law
Hui, and the RACS Foundation lectures will be the highlights of
the scientific meeting. The organizing committee will develop a
scientific program that will ensure participation of the different
countries in the region. Symposium and panel discussion will be
the main format of the scientific sessions.
The organizing committee will likewise ensure that the social
program will be special and memorable to the delegates.
Arrangements will be made with local tour agencies for trips to
neighboring tourists destinations.
For additional information about the congress, you may visit the
website at http://www.acs2011.org
So come and join us in May 12 to 14, 2011 in the beautiful
place of Cebu City, Philippines for the 18th Asian Congress of
Surgery and the 37th PCS Midyear Convention.
Sincerely yours,
PROF. ALEX A. ERASMO, MD, FPCS
