Our Post had 5 comrades, plus the Ladies Auxiliary present. As a Post we had a good year and we learned some things that will help us even more for this next year. I enjoyed working with ALL the officers, committee members and volunteers over the last year. Now I’m looking forward to the coming year and the new officers and committee folk. I think we can keep making improvement if we ALL work together and keep in mind what is best for the Post. What we have been trying to do is keep in mind the over-all membership and not what just a few would like. It’s YOUR Post and we would really like to see more folks get involved with meetings, projects and activities. That’s what keeps it running. So, please show up and help if you can. If you can’t help, then please just show up! We would love to see you. From now until after the 4th of July we have many things going on. If you have time, we sure could use some help. Please call either me at 587-4812 or the Post at 587-3671 and we will let you know who is running what, where and when so you can help out. Thank you, Jack E. Martin Commander NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO ASSESS YOUR FLAG NEEDS AND REPLACE WORN FLAGS. COME TO THE POST FOR YOUR’S. *********************************************** NEW AT THE POST ~ for members who have not been able to make weekly dinners, meetings, etc because of baby sitter issues ~ there is now an area with TV, games & more for your children! No supervision available.Look for flyer for more info. *********************************************** AUXILLARY NOTES Hello Ladies, For our early readers: Our comrades Larry Parkins and Jim Pederson are looking for our help on July 2nd thru 4th. Besides cooking, they need us to man a table (sit down job) with membership recruiting information, Buddy poppies for distribution, and Auxiliary VFW collectors' tins for sale. Please try to set aside sometime between 11:00 and 6:00 to help out on one of those days. Let's make this a very successful venture. 4th of July flags on parade route: If you can help take a block or two (other helpers welcome) to pass out flags to children, please let Helen Reed know at 587-4698 by July 3rd. We are meeting in the back of the dining room at the Post between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the 4th to pick up a supply of flags. And, speaking of Helen, she'll be going to Billings in July. If you've been saving aluminum pull tabs, please bring them to our next meeting. Helen will take them to the Ronald McDonald House. I still need to appoint a flag bearer and four color guard positions. And, anyone interested in the chairmanship of the Membership, Voice of Democracy/Patriot's Pen, or Youth Activities programs, please let me know. All of these positions need to be filled by our next meeting on July 8th. You can call me at 587-7890. One of the things we will be discussing at our July meeting is our Auxiliary dinners. If you have any opinion on this subject, please make sure you attend this meeting and let us know what you think. A closelyrelated item is finding other types of fundraisers. I would like your input. Come and find out how well our Post and Auxiliary did at Convention in the areas of awards and elected Department and National positions on July 8th. It would be wonderful to see you! In the meantime, have a great 4th of July celebration! Barb Emmert Auxiliary President Sincere THANKS to Col (Ret) & Mrs. Covert Soule for a generous donation in memory of Bud Kinchloe. ALERT – CUTTING UP THE U.S. FLAG It has recently come to our attention that some erroneous traditions are becoming more commonplace regarding U.S. Flags that are no longer usable. Many well-meaning individuals have cut up soiled or worn Flags, sometimes cutting out stars and mailing them to our troops. Although this is a thoughtful gesture and appears on the Internet in several places, it is in fact, an inappropriate act and should not be conducted by any VFW Post or Auxiliary. In August 2000, at the VFW 101st National Convention, delegates passed a resolution establishing a U.S. Flag disposal program by fire for Posts to conduct, privately or publicly as follows: 1) The Flag should be folded in its customary manner. (See VFW Ritual Book) 2) It is important that the fire be sizeable and of sufficient intensity to ensure complete burning of the Flag. 3) Place the Flag on the fire. 4) The individual(s) can come to attention, salute the Flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a brief period of silent reflection. 5) After the Flag is completely consumed, the fire should be safely extinguished and the ashes buried. 6) Please make sure you are conforming to local/state fire codes or ordinances. The resolution conforms to the intent and letter of the U.S. Code and the Federal Flag Code. This is the only acceptable way of handling U.S. Flags that are no longer fit to be flown. No other handling of a retired Flag is considered acceptable. Absaroka Assisted Living We will be having a community wide grill out on July 14th from 5pm-7pm. It is free to the public. Jim and the Boys will entertain. Also we will be having a Senior fitness event on July 30th at 10:00 am given by Advantage Rehab. The public is welcome. Counseling Services A relatively new VA Readjustment Counseling Service is now available to Wyoming Veterans. VA's Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) Combat Call Center - 24/7 referral services to all veterans, families and all those trying to help veterans. Call 877-927-8387 (877-WAR VETS). All employees are combat Veterans with the ability to assist in a number of areas. They understand the reluctance to use such a service given the lousy track record of the VBA's 1-800 number and other VA centralized call centers.
