After one year of service, employees will have accrued 120 hours of vacation leave, 95.94 hours of sick leave, 40 hours of administrative leave after 6 months (per f/y) and will have been compensated for thirteen (13) holidays. Retirement is provided by an integrated plan of California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS 2% @ 60) and Social Security. The County pays 100% of employee costs for dental, optical, and medical coverage in the County-sponsored PPO plan and also pays 74% of the costs for dependent coverage in the same plans. In addition, the County provides employee and dependent life insurance and an Employee Assistance Program. DEFINITION: Under direction, performs a variety of professional legal services in the District Attorney’s or Public Defender's office involving the prosecution or defense of criminal cases; and performs related work as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: The Criminal Law Attorney classification has three levels which are assigned at the department director’s discretion in accordance with budget provisions, organizational needs, the individual attorney's expertise and skill, and the experience requirements for the respective levels. Assignments in the class range from the least difficult requiring minimal expertise and experience to the prosecution or defense of the most difficult, complex and sensitive criminal trial cases requiring highly advanced legal knowledge, skill and experience. Some assignments may involve the performance of legal services related to family support matters, or supervising the activities of a satellite office. The amount and type of supervision provided to incumbents in this class ranges from close to minimal depending on each attorney's level in the class and their degree of proficiency in the practice of law. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire. Active membership in the California State Bar.
