Mature students who apply to Sheridan’s certificate and diploma programs must demonstrate their ability to work at the postsecondary level in one of the following two ways: By successfully completing equivalency testing in English and/or mathematics and/or; science or By completing a program of academic upgrading at a level appropriate to the program of choice.* Mature students must demonstrate proficiency in meeting specific program prerequisites. *If you do not have the required prerequisites, you may wish to enrol in Sheridan’s Academic Upgrading program to obtain equivalent credits. COURSE Real Estate Law 2 Code: LAWS 27732 Hours / wk: 3 This course builds upon knowledge and skills gained in the introductory real estate course by further exploring the role and responsibilities of an administrative assistant employed in the field of real estate. Condominium law, commercial real estate, and new home purchases will be studied. Through lectures, guest speakers, machine transcription, demonstrations and immediate student application and practice, students will develop skills in creating correspondence and documents for these transactions. This is a "hands-on" course in which the students integrate keyboarding, specialized legal software, document formatting and transcription skills, with knowledge of real estate. COURSE Litigation 2 Code: LAWS 20794 Hours / wk: 3 This course builds upon knowledge and skills gained in the introductory litigation course by further exploring the role and responsibilities of an administrative assistant employed in the field of litigation. Students will gain knowledge and practical experience in topics such as statutes and rules, disposition without trial and enforcement, applications and motions. Students will complete the litigation process from the trial stage including appeals. This is a "hands-on" course in which the students integrate keyboard, computer, document formatting and transcription skills, with knowledge of civil litigation. COURSE Family Law Code: LAWS 26776 Hours / wk: 3 This course introduces the student to the role and responsibilities of a legal administrative assistant employed in the field of family law in Ontario. Through lectures, machine transcription (Dictaphone), demonstrations and immediate student application and practice, students will develop skills in creating correspondence and documents for uncontested and contested divorces, custody and access applications, spousal and child support, variations of court orders, and equalization of property. This is a "hands-on" course in which the students integrate keyboard, computer, document formatting and transcription skills, with knowledge of family law.
