MICHAEL H. BALLARD (USA) – RESILIENCY FOR LIFE
It is not every day you meet an entrepreneur who decided to start a business while he is in the midst of
fighting a very serious illness. Yet that’s exactly when Michael knew he had to start his company that
would become Resiliency for Life. Through those serious health issues Michael has had to fight for his
life three times.
Michael specializes in resiliency. His practice includes his work as a consultant, facilitator, workshop
leader and writer with over 19 years of experience working with clients from Bermuda to Singapore,
Halifax to Vancouver. His programs and those of his associates assist individuals, families, teams and
organizations build resiliency skills for greater levels of durability and success.
Michael’s interest in resiliency started at an early age when he noticed how some people felt defeated
by the slightest set back, while with others nothing ever seemed to slow them down. Later as an adult,
he faced a seven-year battle with cancer. His earlier interest and insights he had gained helped him
immensely. His interest in resiliency paid many dividends during a very intense seven-year journey.
In Michael's first career he worked for ten years with an international packaged goods firm, where he
moved up through five different positions in Canada. In his last position, Michael played a major role in
the acquisition of the largest dollar volume account in the company's history.
Michael was featured as:
One of North America's 50 more interesting speakers in the book Power Talking by best selling author,
trainer and consultant George Walther.

MARY DIOISE M. RAMOS (PHILIPPINES)
I am Mary Dioise M. Ramos from the Philippines. Currently I am working as a Training and
Quality Officer of the St. Jude Hospital & Medical Center (A family oriented, patient friendly
hospital guided by Christian values). I have my Masters in Nursing major in Nursing
Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and passed as a Registered Nurse.
The 1st Regional Health Sciences and Nursing Conference 2011 is really interesting since it
caters different disciplines of health care considering that the theme of the conference is
"Caring Professional Towards Excellent Health Care."
Being exposed in the hospital and being part of the administration is quite a tough job since I
am dealing with different people from different departments, units and areas. I am writing to
you now to express my interest to be a speaker of the conference and I want to discuss about
the "Role of Multi-Disciplinary Approach towards Achieving Quality Health Care"

MARK AVERY (AUSTRALIA)
I am the Program Convenor for the health services management programs offered here at
Griffith University, Brisbane Australia. My background includes experience in leading and
managing hospitals and health services at tertiary and academic levels in both Australia and
regulatory and hospital services in England and as an academic in health services
management.
Some areas that might be of value in your scientific program that I could contribute include:
Health Service Providers and Academics - Leveraging for patient care, service improvement
and learning
Quality Improvement in Health Care - focusing research and development
I have strong experience in leadership and management of hospitals and health services
should there be a topic approach there that might also support your scientific program.
I'd appreciate your advice as to whether I could add to your program in February.
