English II Honors G/T Mr. Lampo JeremyRLampo@gmail.com Class Format English II is an intensive, college preparatory curriculum, which combines expository writing as well as a myriad of genres of literature. Comprehensive vocabulary (usually ten SAT high frequency words per day). All vocabulary will be cumulative, meaning that vocabulary covered in the third nine weeks will be reviewed and tested during the 4th nine weeks, so make sure to keep all of your flash cards! Research Paper (we will be doing a college research report during the 3rd and 4th nine weeks). Grammar/Editing via SAT/ACT/PSAT type questions. Literature-based projects emphasizing literary analysis Students must submit all assignments on the due date or one letter grade will be deducted for each date late. If you are ill or out for a school related activity, please email me to receive the assignment. It is your responsibility to ensure all work is completed in a timely manner. Materials Needed: (Please mark all of the materials you bring in with your name). $20.00 English Fee 200 index cards 3X5 (with or without lines) (turn in) 3 AAA batteries for personal Activote (turn in) A binder for taking notes/PSAT log (keep) One pack of black pens (keep) One large pack of loose leaf (not tear out notebook paper) (turn in) Variety pack of highlighters (keep) One black sharpie (turn in) 1 pair scissors (turn in) *Email Mr. Lampo so he can add you to his mailing list (parent and student). Students: you will be required to check your email account daily. One copy of Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and cone copy of 1984 by George Orwell. If you have a smart phone/tablet you can access these on my wiki. Gmail account (free): you can use your regular email, but you need a gmail account to use Google Docs, etc. More on this in class. Grades Essays/Tests/Projects/Quizzes 50% Vocabulary quizzes count as a quiz grade which is half of a test grade (2 quizzes=1 test). The research paper will be worth two test grades (one for grammar/mechanics and one for content). Class Participation/Homework/PSAT Log 25% Exam (when applicable) 25%) Note: your End of Course test will serve as your exam for the 4th nine weeks. We will follow the Jefferson Parish grading scale (A=4, B=3, etc.).
