During our reading of King Lear you are to keep a response journal focusing on imagery.
Motifs and themes that you should pay close attention to for finding significant images
are as follows:
 Blindness/ Clear sight
 Nature especially Storm/ weather
 Madness
 Animal imagery – remember the Great Chain of Being
 Divine Justice/ Evil
You must collect a minimum of 30 images on which you comment on significance/
meaning. Discuss the attributes of the image in you discussion. For example one female
character is called a detested kite. Kites have sharp claws, are predatory and calculating
killers, and prey on those smaller than themselves. Sounds like a nice date.
At the end of the play you are to choose one of the motifs/ themes and answer the
