Quality Assurance

General:

Equipment provided shall incorporate the manufacturers latest design improvements and
materials in place as of date of manufacture.

Bidders shall furnish with his bid a list and clarifications of deviations from the specifications.

Manufacturer:

Shall be registered with the WSIB and safety certified at time of bid.
.2
Shall be CWB certified under CSA standard W47.1 "Certification of Companies for Fusion
Welding of Steel"

Shall be an established firm experienced in the field of gymnasium equipment and approved
by the manufacturer.

Shall have no less than 5 years experience, dating from the bid date set for this project and
have satisfactorily completed no less than 5 installations similar in complexity to that required here-in.

Warranty/Guarantee:

Provide a written warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one
year from the date of installation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1
Fabrication
.1
Overhead Suspension:
.1
Provide custom designed mounting clamps or clips to be supported to the building
superstructure at maximum [10'-0"] [3050mm] on centre.

Where positioning does not permit direct attachment to the building structure, Metal
Fabrications Section 05500 shall provide support structure for mounting curtain system.

Drive System:
.1
Overhead drive system shall consist of one continuous [2-3/8"] [60mm] diameter drive tube
with electric drive unit located in the centre.
.2
Divider curtains shall be powered with a 3/4 HP drive unit.

Hoisting Mechanism:
.1
Drive tube shall be supported by roller assemblies fastened to building super structure at no
more than [10'-0"] [3050mm] on centre.
.2
Cable lift drums shall be mounted on the drive tube at no more than [10'-0"] [3050mm] on
centre.
.3
A continuous [1"] [25mm] curtain support tube shall be suspended from the roller assemblies.
Curtain support tube is to be fed through the top seam in the divider curtain and is to be adjustable in
order to obtain a level straight top-line and the proper clearance from the floor.

Lift lines shall be [1/8"] [3mm] 7 x 19 galvanized aircraft cable. Lift lines to be fastened to
cable lift drums at the top.

Each lift line shall be securely fastened at the bottom ballast-tube and travel upwards through
the curtain brailing grommets to the corresponding cable lift drums.

Electric Drive Unit:

Shall be electrically operated by means of Forum F49006 Electric Winch 3/4 HP, 115 V,
11.5 Amp, instant reversible torque motor, limit switches, and flush mounted UP/DOWN/STOP
constant contact single 3-position switch, 2300 inch pounds of torque, sealed gear case with precision
ball bearings.

Curtain Fabrication:

At every [9'-3"] [2819mm] approx. of width and [3"] [76mm] from each side there shall be a
vertical row of #5 grommets placed every [18"] [457mm] on centre.

All seams to be [2"] [50mm] single turned and placed at approximately [60"] [1525mm] on
centre.
.3
Side, top and hems shall be [6"] [150mm] and bottom hems [10"] [255mm] wide, single
turned.

Bottom hem shall contain a separate enclosed hem containing the continuous ballast bar.

All seams and hems shall be heat sealed or sewn double with lock-stitch using #16 polyester
thread.

Curtain Materials:

Solid vinyl materials shall be heavy duty [18 oz. per sq. yd.] [0.61 Kg. per sq. m.] [22 oz. per
sq. yd.] [0.75 Kg. per sq. m.] vinyl coated, heat set polyester material, flammability rated as selfextinguishing by the California State Fire Code and Class A rated in accordance with requirements of
NFPA-101. Standard colours orange, grey, white, red, forest green, yellow, black, blue, beige.

Open mesh vinyl materials shall be [9 oz. per sq. yd.] [0.306 Kg. per sq. m.] vinyl coated
woven polyester fabric allowing for through mesh lighting, observation, and air circulation.
Flammability rated as self-extinguishing by the California State Fire Code and Class A rated in
accordance with requirements of NFPA-101. Standard colours white, yellow, red, black.

Provide Forum F49007 curtain lock safety belt system attached to the hoisting mechanism.
Divider Curtain Assembly

Shall be Forum F3100 Divider Curtain System or approved equal, with [choose desired
curtain type]
Deluxe solid vinyl curtain.
Open mesh vinyl coated woven polyester fabric.
Combination mesh/vinyl curtain, with the lower [10'-0"] [3050mm] of curtain being
deluxe solid vinyl with the top section being open mesh vinyl coated woven polyester
fabric.
PART 3 - EXECUTION

Inspection

Verify by obtaining actual site measurements prior to any fabrication modification, or cutting,
all dimensions as required for a complete first class installation.

and proper installation.

immediately.

Installation and Performance

Standard:

Installation to conform to the manufacturers latest approved installation methods and
procedures.

Methods:

Install divider curtain systems to locations as shown on the architectural plans and in
accordance with the approved shop drawings.

Drive system is to be securely mounted to the building structure and sway braced as required
to provide a safe and quality installation.

Where drive is fixed to structural components, the system shall be mounted using
manufacturers recommended mounting procedures or if required, fastening devices or methods
custom designed to withstand the loads imposed by the equipment which shall not affect the
structural requirements of the components.

Structural Supports:

Provided as required by the Structural Trade to locations as verified by this section, all
structural supports required, but not necessarily shown, to safely support this sections work.

Electrical Wiring:

Provided as required by the Electrical Trade to locations as verified by this section, all
electrical power, conduits, field wiring and connections of the electrical winch and controls.
