Biome in a Box Project Ms. Miglis This project was assigned on 4/13/15__ and is due on 6/5/2015_. This project is worth 100 points and is due at the beginning of class on the due date. Projects turned in late will have 25 points per day deducted. Biomes: Tundra, Taiga, Tropical Rain Forest, Tropical Dry Forest, Tropical Savanna, Temperate Grasslands, Temperate Deciduous Forest, Temperate Woodland and Shrubland, Northwestern Coniferous Forest, Desert The project will include a report over your biome and a 3-D model (box) of your biome. The report should be typed (double spaced) and be at least 3 pages long. Graphics may be included, but will not count toward the length requirement. A typed report of your biome must include: Characteristics that determine the structure and appearance of a biome (general information about what a biome is). Characteristics of your biome, which should include: o Average temperature o Average rainfall o *10 animals most common to this biome (common and scientific name) o *10 plants (or types of plants) most common to this biome (common and scientific name) o Special, interesting or unique facts about your biome o Graphics – at least 3 o Map of the world showing the locations of your biome (see your book for locations) You must have a fact sheet, no longer than one page, of everything the class should know about your biome. This does not have to be in complete sentences. It may be a bulleted list or a table. Hand it in separately from your report. I will copy the best ones and give them to the rest of the class to study. Biome Box The box may be no larger than a large shoe box. It should accurately reflect the animals and plants in your biome. Your plants and animals may be made out of plastic, paper, model magic, etc. You may use real sand, dirt, or other ground coverings. Your biome box will be returned, however, as long as it is on display in the class I cannot guarantee that things won’t disappear. Don’t put anything of great value in your box. The biomes will be assigned randomly to each student. You may not trade biomes with another student. *Some biomes do not have much biodiversity, so your list of plants and animals may not be this extensive.
