NGU Fuge Information FUGE ’13 GENERAL INFORMATION 1. University Bookstore The bookstore is located beneath the dining hall. Hours of operation are as follows: Monday-afternoon only 3:00PM – 5:00 PM Tuesday-Friday 8:00AM – 5:00PM 2. Evening Snacks The 63/64 Grill will open from 1PM – 5:30PM & 9:00PM – 11:00PM Monday through Friday evenings to sell pizza-whole or by the slice, wings, fries, nachos and drinks. Food and drinks are not permitted in classrooms or auditorium, New: Einstein Bros. Bagel Shop will be open across the street from 7AM-2:30PM Monday through Friday. Campers cannot go across the street without an adult counselor. 3. Mail All mail to campers will be received in the Fuge post office box. Fuge Staff to distribute. NGU Support Staff to help as needed. 4. Post Office The post office is located beneath the dining hall. The hours are 10:00AM – 11:00 AM Monday – Friday and 1:30PM – 2:30PM Monday-Thursday. Postage stamps will be available in the bookstore. 5. Clinic Before you can be seen at Tuttle Clinic, you MUST have your medical release forms! 6. Facilities Maintenance All maintenance requests should be reported to the Student Services Office by 9:00AM daily or as needed during the day until 11:00PM. Student Services Office number from 9:00AM - 5:00PM is 864-977-7121 and from 5:00PM - 11:00PM the number to call would be 864-663-0251. Request can also be given in writing in the mornings after Adult Bible Study at the sound boot in the back of the Chapel. For after hours emergencies, call the appropriate person on duty, located on the back of this form. If no immediate response is given, call 864-977-7777 or 864-977-3219 (Campus Security) for assistance. Maintenance needs will be responded to as quickly as possible. 7. Keys Two keys for each residence hall room will be made available to the counselor at check-in. KEYS MUST BE SAFEGUARDED AT ALL TIMES. If a key is lost during your stay, you must contact the Student Services Office for replacement. Cost for a replacement key is $10.00 due at the time of replacement. Counselors will return all room keys to NGU Support Staff at the time of check-out. Check-out will not be completed until the counselor has made arrangements with Student Services to pay for any lost key(s). DOORS MUST BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED ONLY WITH YOUR ROOM KEY. Keys must be turned a full 360degree turn (sometimes a little more) in order to lock or unlock the doors. 8. Gate and Door Security The lower gate is locked at11:00PM and will reopen at 5:00AM. Please use the main gate beside Campus Security whenever the lower gate is closed. For all residence halls with “Main Door” card access, these doors will be programmed unlocked from 6:30AM until Midnight. These doors will automatically lock from Midnight until 6:30AM. One counselor from each church will be given a pass card to use as needed during times when doors are locked. All doors in these areas have door alarms and must remain closed at all times. Doors left open for over 30 seconds will cause the alarms to sound. 9. Residence Hall Damages A NGU Support Staff person will clear you for check-out of your residence hall room(s). The procedures for how to properly check-out will be provided on Friday. Resolution of cost for any new damages to your residence hall room(s) must be settled immediately with the Director of Student Services and any assigned costs must be paid in full prior to clearance for checkout. Student Services maintains a current room condition sheet on file for each residence hall room. A charge may be assessed at check-out for unusually dirty rooms. Charges will be determined based on current cost for materials, parts and labor. 10. MicroFridges Micro-fridges are not to be used by campers. Adults that need to store medication and other needs may use the micro-fridge. We ask that they be cleaned and defrosted Friday night before check-out on Saturday morning. Doors must be open on both the fridge and microwave in all rooms before check out. 11. Transportation Churches wishing to make use of North Greenville University transportation will need to see Rick Morris in Campus Security. Requests should be placed as soon as possible after arrival. There is a rental fee and other conditions apply for usage. At time of check-in, Campus Security Personnel will direct you to the appropriate parking lots. Please use only these lots during your stay. 12. Bus Parking Buses can be parked, after letting campers off, at the big parking lot in front of campus security (back of the Todd Dining Hall). 13. Prayer Chapel The Todd Prayer Chapel is for praying only. Please help keep students out of this area unless they are there to pray! 14. Miscellaneous A. Windows in all rooms must be kept closed at all times. B. Fuge camp policies regarding curfew, visitation, etc. are established and administered by Fuge Staff. AT NO TIME ARE MALES ALLOWED IN OR AROUND FEMALE RESIDENT AREAS NOR ARE FEMALES ALLOWED IN OR AROUND MALE RESIDENT AREAS. C. Place bags of trash outside room daily for pickup by the Support Staff. On Thursday, the Support Staff will go through each room to check for cleanliness and damages. Reports of any discrepancies will be reported immediately to Church Counselors. D. Respect for the parks; flowers are not to be stepped on nor picked. Rails are not to be sat on nor hung on. Rocks around the waterfall are not designed for sitting nor standing. Campers cannot go to the waterfall at the entrance of the campus unless a counselor is with them. Please, do not put anything in the water. This will be greatly appreciated. E. Continue on Highway 25 North to Highway 414. Turn right on Highway 414 and the university is four miles on the left. From Spartanburg: Take Highway 29 toward Greenville. Turn right on Highway 290 in Greer. Stay on Highway 290 until you reach the intersection of Highway 290 and Highway 253. Turn right on Highway 253. After you have traveled six miles you will come to the intersection of Highway 253 and Highway 414. Turn left on Highway 414 and you will see the entrance to the university on the right. From Hendersonville: Take I-26 toward Spartanburg. Exit onto Highway 25/ Greenville, South Carolina. Take a left onto Highway 414. The university is four miles on the left. From Columbia: Take I-26 West to Spartanburg. Exit on Highway 29 toward Greer/ Greenville. Turn right on Highway 290 in Greer. Stay on Highway 290 until you reach the intersection of Highway 290 and Highway 253. Turn right on Highway 253. After you have traveled six miles you will come to the intersection of Highway 253 and Highway 414. Turn left on Highway 414 and you will see the entrance to the university on the right. From Atlanta: Take I-85 North to Exit 42. Take that exit to White Horse Rd. / Highway 25. Stay on Highway 25 traveling toward Ashville, North Carolina. Turn right on Highway 414. The University is four miles on the left Fuge Parking Due to the heavy traffic on our campus during the summer with the Fuge Camps, summer school sessions, and other activities, we need the cooperation of everyone for the safety of all. Please carefully observe all the parking and traffic flow policies below. 1. Park only in the painted parking places on the street. Do not park any where else on any street, sidewalk, or grassy area. Fire lanes are mandated by State and federal laws. 2. The speed limit on campus is 15 mph. 3. Obey all traffic laws and signs. (Handicap parking is restricted for vehicles with state issued plaques). 4. Watch/Yield to pedestrians at all times. General Traffic Driving Directions Please observe all traffic flow signs. 1. Donnan Boulevard is the main entrance from highway 414 onto campus. Part of Donnan Blvd is TWO WAY traffic. Drive with care. Follow the exit arrows behind Hayes Ministry Center to exit on Donnan Boulevard. Do Not Turn right from Donnan Blvd. There is no Fuge parking around Turner Chapel or the Hayes Fine Arts Building at any time. These spaces are reserved for faculty and staff only. 2. No parking Behind Hayes Ministry Center: Parking behind Hayes Ministry Center is for summer school. 3. Fuge Parking is available behind the Averyt-Wood Learning Center. 4. The parking lots and spaces next to the Todd Dining Hall, Tingle Student Center, and the Craft/Hemphill building are for faculty and staff only. 5. Crain Science Lot: The parking lot in front of Crain Science Building is for faculty and staff. Fuge campers are not permitted to park in this lot during work hours. Campers can park in faculty parking (yellow lined spaces) at Crain Science Building between the hours of 5:30 PM and Midnight. 6. There is no parking on the maintenance road or the road to the pond. North Greenville University’s Security Officer’s Authority: North Greenville University Security officers enforce all State laws, including all traffic laws. They also enforce North Greenville University’s rules and regulations. Under the laws of the State of South Carolina, North Greenville Security Officers are authorized to issue State Uniform Traffic Citations. Go to Hwy 25 (approx. 4 miles) and turn left (south). Go approx. 5 miles to Travelers Rest, SC. Go through one red light and bear to the right at the fork in the road (at Citgo Station). At the next fork in the road, bear right again. At the red light you will turn right (north) on Hwy 276, toward Marietta. One mile after turning onto Hwy 276, North Greenville Hospital (Travelers Rest Emergency Room) will be on the left. Stay on this road until you reach Hwy 290. Turn left and stay on 290 until you pass Calvary Christian Fellowship on your right. Turn right at the next intersection which is St. Mark Road. Stay on St. Mark until you come to the traffic signal at Hwy 29. Turn right and go approx. 5 miles. You will pass “Canopy Car Wash” on the left and the Urgent Treatment Center is just past that on the left. Greer Memorial Hospital, Greer, SC 864-797-8200 Open 24 hours At the flashing light at Tigerville, get on Hwy 253. Stay on this road until you reach Hwy 290, turn left and Hwy 29 will be approximately 6 miles. You will cross over Hwy 29 and continue straight. The hospital will be on your right-hand side. Preventive Measures Bee Stings Avoid bright colored clothes. Do not use colognes and hair spray that have a sweet aroma. Be careful with canned drinks to prevent bees, wasps, and yellow jackets from entering the can. Those with known allergies to bees must possess a bee sting kit. 1. 2. 3. 4. Heat Exhaustion 1. Drink extra fluids at mealtime and between meals. 2. Use Gatorade or other sports drinks. 3. Replace salt with salt tablets. 4. Use sunscreen with 4 or greater block When hiking in wooded areas, wear long sleeves, long pants and use insect repellant on exposed areas. Each night inspect body for ticks, especially the scalp and hairline. Poison Ivy Armor to prevent Poison Oak and Ivy should be used when walking or hiking in wooded areas. First Aid Fainting Lay victim on back, elevate feet or bend over with head at knee level. If unresponsive, call 911. Begin CPR if needed and you are trained or being guided by an emergency dispatcher. Fractures Do not move if unconscious or back/neck injuries are suspected. Treat breathing/bleeding/shock first. Immobilize injury before moving. Insect Bites & Stings Scrape off stinger with finger, don’t squeeze. Wash with soap/water. Apply cold compress, then calamine lotion. Get help IMMEDIATELY if allergic. Nosebleed Keep head forward Squeeze nose closed If bleeding does not stop, apply cold compress and reapply pressure. If bleeding continues, call doctor. Object in Eye Let eye tear, don’t rub. If loose, object may dislodge itself, or dab eye gently with a clean cloth. If embedded, cover both eyes and get help. Poisoning If victim has serious symptoms or has collapsed, call 911. Otherwise, call Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222 in United States). SWALLOWED POISON: DO NOT induce vomiting or give the victim syrup of ipecac, food or anything to drink unless directed by a medical professional. POISON ON SKIN: Remove contaminated clothing and flush skin with water for 15 minutes. Wash skin gently with soap and cool water, rinse. POISON IN EYE: Flush eye for at least 15 minutes with lukewarm water. Blink often. DO NOT rub eyes or use eye drops. INHALED POISON: Move victim to fresh air. If victim has collapsed, call 911 and begin CPR if you are trained or being guided by an emergency dispatcher. Shock (WARNING SIGNS: Pale, clammy skin; weakness; fast breathing; rapid, weak pulse; confusion.) Lay victim on back with feet raised unless head/back injuries are suspected Begin CPR if needed and you are trained or being guided by an emergency dispatcher. Treat bleeding problems. Call 911. Welcome to North Greenville University North Greenville University policy states that males are not allowed in the female resident halls and females are not allowed in the male resident halls. We also have what we call the curb rule where males and females do not cross the curb of the opposite gender. Females are also not allowed to be in the Crusader Court Area. We hope this helps make the week a pleasant experience. Grounds Keeping Please dispose of all trash in the proper containers. The flowers and hedges are around the campus for beautification, please do not walk or stomp on them. The tables and plants in front of Tingle Student Center are there for your enjoyment, please do not stand on them or throw trash out around them. The wrought iron work around the park is also a part of the beautification on the campus, please do not walk, sit or balance on it. We ask that everyone stay out of the waterfall and fountain on campus, please do not put anything in the water. Campers cannot go to the waterfall at the entrance of the campus unless a counselor is with them. The rocks around the waterfall are not designed for sitting nor standing, please be aware of the potential hazard of improper use. The pond in the Prayer Garden is there for everyone’s enjoyment – PLEASE do not put soap or any other chemicals in the pond. It will kill the fish. This is a place of prayer and reverence. PLEASE DO NOT GO NEAR THE CONSTRUCTION SITE (CRAIN SCIENCE BUILDING). Indoor Pests Please keep windows/doors closed and food stored in containers! Open windows/doors and open food help to increase the bug and ant population inside the resident halls. Empty food containers can be taken to outside trash container. The Support Staff will pick up trash each morning when left outside the room door. PLEASE help us to control this situation by letting your Support Staff know as soon as possible of any problems. You can check out: Volley Balls, Basketballs, Tennis Equipment, Ping Pong Paddles, Footballs, Soccer Balls, Billiard Equipment FUGE CAMP CHECKOUT PROCEDURES A NGU Support Staff worker will do a room-by-room check-out of your assigned residence hall area. This will be paid to the Director of Student Services. Access Cards: Counselors with access cards must return the card along with their room keys. There is a $10.00 replacement cost for lost cards. Blinds: There is a $15.00 cost for replacement of broken or damaged blinds. Micro-Fridge: Must be open, clean and defrosted before checking out.
