This means that we start at midnight count up until 12 noon. Then we start over again at 1 pm. In Europe, they sometimes use 12-hour time, but they often use military time. This is also known as 24-hour time. In military time, a colon or the letter h is used to separate hours and minutes. In 24-hour time, midnight is the start and end of the day. Therefore it can be written as 00h00 or 24h00 Every single hour after midnight is counted. They do NOT start counting over after 12 noon. So, 5 in the morning is written as 05h00. To determine the military time for 5 in the evening, add 12 ! It becomes 17h00 . Here are a few more examples of this: o 7 am in military time is 07h00 o 7 pm in military time is 19h00 o 11:30 am in military time is 11h30 o 11:30 pm in military time is 23h30 Alternatively, to go from military time to 12-hour time, subtract 12! So 22h00 minus 12 is 10 pm. However, when we make this type of conversion it is important to indicate whether the 12-hour time is AM or PM. If the military time hours is bigger than 12, it is PM . If the military time hours is smaller than 12, it is AM . So, 22h00 is equal to 10 PM . Here are a few more examples of this: o 21h00 in 12-hour time is 9 PM. o 09h00 in 12-hour time is 9 AM. o 16h15 in 12-hour time is 4:15 PM. o 04h15 in 12-hour time is 4:15 AM.
