also the opportunity to take your skills further in Ballroom Dancing exams.

Sequence Dancing

This new class is open to all levels, from the novice to the more experienced
dancer. We’ll be covering popular dances in the classical, standard ballroom and
Latin American style. This is your chance to socialise and meet new people in a
relaxed and friendly atmosphere - and don’t worry if you don’t have a partner!

Improvers Course

Continuing from our Beginners Course, Improvers is open to all dancers who have
learnt the basic steps of Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Cha Cha Cha and Jive and
those who would like a little refresher. In this course you will learn the basic steps
and routines in the flowing Foxtrot, sizzling Samba and raunchy Rumba while
continuing to improve the other Ballroom and Latin American dances. You will also
learn a little technique to turn you into very able dancers.

Intermediate Course

The Intermediate Class is open to existing Intermediate students AND anyone who
feels they are ready for new challenges in both Ballroom and Latin American
dancing. We will be progressing onto more intermediate steps and routines as well
as teaching more technique to make you even better dancers. Newcomers
welcome!

privileged place she had at Miss Minchin’s ‘School for Young Ladies’ is
replaced by hardship and cruelty.
However, her courageous spirit earns her the admiration of some surprising
people. With beautiful costumes, an ingenious set and wonderful music from
Robert Hyman, the show is preceded by a rehearsal workshop where the
audience gets to join in.

This was Du Maurier's own favourite among her many books, set in her own
house of Menabilly near Fowey. ‘Rebecca’ is full of mystery, love and
suspense – and a much finer novel than it is often given credit for.

Four attractive, pampered women housewives - members of an all-too close
social set - decide to take the law into their own hands.
Shortly after Maggie’s husband, Don, leaves for a business trip, Alan arrives
expecting an intimate interlude. Instead he finds himself handcuffed and put
on trial for causing the death of another woman. What follows is one of the
most bizarre trials ever. Secrets are revealed, lies exposed and affairs
confessed, culminating in a final act of violence.

The third Grantham Art Fair celebrates a wealth of talent, both amateur and
professional, shown by artists living and working locally.
Over 350 works will be on display in exhibitions by students from Grantham
College, Grantham Art Club, Kesteven Leisure Artists Society, Painting for
Pleasure and Sleaford Art Group and by individual artists Rachel Connolly,
Malcolm Doughty, Alan and Denise Drury, Margaret Hayward and Haidee-Jo
Summers. This is a real community event that can be enjoyed by everyone!

An Audience with Will Self

journalist, novelist and public figure with his characteristic fearless and edgy
humour.
The author of five novels, four collections of short stories, three novellas and
four non-fiction works, Will has also contributed to a variety of publications
including a regular column in the Evening Standard. He is also a frequent
broadcaster on TV and radio. His latest book ‘Walking to Hollywood’ - due out
in September - burrows down through the intersections of time, place and
psyche to explore our deepest fears and anxieties.

Stained Glass Window Workshop

skills needed to produce a stained glass panel.

Charlie Dore & The Hula Valley Orchestra

Charlie Dore is a clever songwriter with an unusually expressive voice that
glides from folk and country to jazzy cabaret with such assured serenity that
you’ll think you’ve been transported to another era.
Drawing on the evocative musical past of the American Depression, her
extraordinary album, ‘The Hula Valley Songbook’ is inspired by the likes of Al
Bowlly, 'Daddy of Western Swing' Milton Brown and Bing Crosby. Charlie
breathes beauty, charm and poignancy into these old songs all of which have
fascinating stories lurking behind the lyrics.

The Guildhall’s Senior Youth Drama group present a condensed version of
stage and screen hit ‘Cabaret’, which intertwines entertainment with social
history, documenting German society’s slide toward the Nazis regime.
Writer Brian Roberts travels to Berlin in the early 1930s to become a teacher.
During his stay he meets flamboyant entertainer Sally Bowles who works at
the Kit Kat Klub - a ‘naughty’ nightclub’ providing Berliners with a temporary
escape from the harshness of life.

'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' by Muriel Spark
Thursday 1 July

Dame Muriel Spark wrote over 20 novels in her distinguished writing career
and when ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ first came out in 1961, it caused a
sensation, especially at the James Gillespie High School in Edinburgh, which
was only thinly disguised.
Come and enjoy Sparks' satire on school life and the little betrayals which
make a tragedy out of the life of an almost great teacher.

‘The Sneetches’ and ‘What Was I Scared Of?’

The Sneetches
The Intermediate Youth Drama group present a lesson in the senselessness
of prejudice and discrimination through the story of some bird-like yellow
creatures, called The Seetches.
What Was I Scared Of?
The Junior Youth Drama group present a lesson about fearing things which
are unfamiliar through the tale of a character who repeatedly meets up with an
empty pair of pale-green pants.
Both plays are adapted from stories by American writer and cartoonist
Theodor Seuss Geisel who, under the pen name Dr. Seuss, wrote children’s
books characterized by imaginative characters and the use of rhyme.

Django à la Créole

‘Django à la Créole’ seasons the well loved gypsy jazz repertory with rhythms
from New Orleans, Cuba, Brazil and the Caribbean.
The first fusion of New Orleans clarinet with the Gypsy Swing style was a
recording session in 1939 with Django Reinhardt and clarinettist Barney
Bigard. This modern day incarnation is the creation of clarinettist Evan
Christopher - one of the 4,000 musicians displaced by Hurricane Katrina
which devastated New Orleans in 2005. Evan chose Paris as his exile and
during his stay, worked to raise awareness for the musical culture of New
Orleans whilst soaking up the jazz culture of his new home and forming Django à la Créole.

Come and swim with The Rainbow Fish in her underwater paradise and
prepare to be whisked away on a deep-sea adventure.
The Rainbow Fish, with her shimmering scales, is the most beautiful fish in
the ocean. But she is also proud and vain and none of the other fish want to
be her friends until, that is, she learns to give away some of her most prized
possessions. Based on the classic children's story by Marcus Pfister,
Blunderbus Theatre Company’s brand new adaptation is bursting with
glittering puppetry sequences, magic and plenty of fun.

Calling all photographers, travellers and wildlife enthusiasts – join presenter,
photographer, traveller and wildlife expert Chris Packham on a fascinating
journey through the eyes of his camera in this stunning show with a
difference.
Throughout his travels, Chris has collected thousands of images of the
people, places and creatures he has seen. For this show he has selected 100
images to talk about and takes us through the process of striving for
perfection.

The Lonnie Donegan Band
Featuring Peter Donegan
Friday 30 July

Join The Lonnie Donegan Band fronted by Lonnie’s son Peter for an evening
of skiffle, jazz and foot-stomping blues.
After Lonnie's death, the band reformed to perform at the Rock Island Line
tribute concert at the Royal Albert Hall and the line-up proved so successful
that they’ve since been in great demand. Their performance includes some of
Lonnie’s classics such as ‘Putting On The Style’, ‘Have a Drink On Me’, ‘Rock
Island Line’, and ‘Pick a Bale of Cotton’ as well as Lonnie’s lesser-known
recorded songs and original songs by Peter.

pirates are hunting for treasure, the British Navy is hunting for pirates and the
Spanish Navy is hunting them both!
But what happens next? The workshop is partly pre-structured and partly
improvised so where the story goes is your decision. It’s open to 6 to 16year-olds and suitable for beginners and experienced performers. What’s
more, when you’ve perfected your musical play - you’ll get the chance to
perform your play in front of family and friends. Bring a packed lunch.

Guildhall Arts Centre – The Venue
Room Hire
The impressive Victorian clock tower of the Guildhall Arts Centre on St Peter’s
Hill, right in the centre of town, serves as an obvious point of reference to
anyone visiting the centre.
Well situated and easy to find, this venue offers a range of facilities to
accommodate a variety of activities including performances, conferences,
seminars, presentations, meetings, workshops, receptions and parties. Buffet
lunches are available from our in-house café from just £3.00 a head and there
is a professional kitchen and a range of support equipment available for hire.
The venue is accessible to wheelchair users with a lift to the first and second
floors and has disabled facilities. Anyone requiring assistance should inform
the venue prior to the visit and we will be more than happy to help.

The Theatre
The Guildhall Theatre can seat up to 210 people and hosts performances,
workshop, lectures and seminars throughout the year. The theatre is
equipped with professional quality sound and lighting systems, an excellent
upright piano, cinema screen and two fully fitted dressing rooms with adjoining
showers and toilets. The theatre also has an induction loop and guide dogs
are welcome.
The Ballroom
Perfect for wedding receptions, parties and informal performances, the
Ballroom can hold up to 200 people and seat 100. With a small stage, dance
floor, professional kitchen for your chosen caterer, licensed bar and some
sound and lighting equipment available, the Ballroom is a great venue with
lots to offer. Situated on the second floor with lift access, the Ballroom is also
ideal for everything from sales meetings to seminars.
The Gallery & Studio 4
The Gallery and Studio 4 can accommodate smaller functions and meetings.
The Gallery is situated on the ground floor and can be used for small
performances, parties, lectures, sales and meetings. Studio 4, situated on the
second floor with lift access, can comfortably seat up to 25 people for
meetings and lectures.
Equipment Available
Equipment available for hire includes: overhead projector, screens, flipcharts,
television, video, DVD player, Power Point, slide projector, public
announcement systems (for Ballroom and Theatre only), fax and photocopier.
Ticket Prices and Concessions
Discounts are available to Artscene Members, unemployed, senior citizens,
students, children under 16, those in receipt of income support, invalidity,
benefit or disability allowance, and to a carer accompanying a disabled
person. Please bring proof of status when making a booking. Student
standbys are available to anyone in full-time education for just £2.00, 15
minutes prior to a guildhall.
Refunds
Regretfully we are unable to refund money or exchange tickets. If an event is
sold out we will try to sell unwanted tickets.

The Box Office is open from Mon to Fri 9.30am to 4.30pm, Sat 9.30am to
1.00pm and 45 minutes prior to events.
Reservations and Collections
Reserved tickets must be paid for within five working days or they will be
released for sale. Paid-for tickets should be collected 15mins before the start
of a show to avoid a last minute rush.
