The Persecuted Church:
MALI: the church has experienced a sharp
increase in hostilities since March 2012, when separatist rebels and
extremist Islamist fighters captured the north of Mali and instituted an
extreme form of Sharia. The insurgents destroyed churches and other
Christian buildings, aiming to eradicate all traces of Christianity in the
region. They also were very hard on more moderate Muslims, killing
people, amputating limbs and destroying Sufi sanctuaries.
The nation:
lead us Heavenly Father, as you would through this world.
Guide and protect us and our chosen earthly leaders from all evil; and
keep us always as your children.
The world:
our world leaders as they debate our climate changes. Be
with them, Father, and show them the way you would have us travel.
Ourselves:
Father, if it is your will, make this CHRIST-mas special to all
whom we know and meet over this season.
Prayer for the week:
Father in heaven, the day draws near when the glory of your Son
will make radiant the night of the waiting world.
May the lure of greed not impede us from the joy which moves
the hearts of those who seek Him.
May the darkness not blind us to the vision of wisdom
which fills the minds of those who find Him.

LORD, raise up, we pray, your power and come among us,
and with great might succour us;

hindered in running the race that is set before us, your
bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us;
through JESUS CHRIST your Son our Lord, to whom with you
and the Holy Spirit be honour and glory, now and for ever.

FEED A CHILD THIS CHRISTMAS with UNICEF
 too many children are in danger because they don’t have the food they
need to live and grow.
 a child dies every 15 seconds as a result of malnutrition. Millions more
live with the lifetime effects - physical disabilities and learning
difficulties.
 the first thousand days are the most critical in a child’s life. Without
enough of the nutrients they need, their bodies and brains don’t
develop the way they should.
 together with your support we can work towards putting an end to
hunger so that every child gets the nutrition they need to grow up
healthy and strong.
 we’ll do whatever it takes until every child is safe. Will you help us?
 donate to this year's UNICEF CRIB COLLECTION - in the
envelopes in the pews.
LIGHT OF LIFE CHRISTMAS TREE
Christmas can be a very sad
time for some, so the "Lights of Life Tree" will again be available from 13th
December and is dedicated to the memory of loved ones who have died and
of whom we are especially reminded at this time of year. You are invited to
spend some time in reflection by the tree, perhaps recording their name on
one of the tags provided and placing on the Tree. Peter Sage
STAMPS
don’t forget, when opening your Christmas cards, that we
collect used stamps for St Luke’s Hospice, which raises several £000s a year
from this. Leave them on a small margin of envelope, and put them in the bus
tin on the table by the door to the vestibule.
THANK YOU all for your prayers and good wishes, get well cards and
phone calls while I have been unwell. I hope to be in church again soon and
look forward to seeing everybody there. John Gillard.

WOULD YOU BE A GOOD FOSTER CARER?
St Christopher’s is
a charity which has been caring for children for over 145 years, and needs to
recruit foster carers to give a good home to vulnerable children in this area.
Fostering can be hugely rewarding and you can provide opportunities and
experiences to help them achieve in life, and have happy and rewarding
futures. It’s not always easy and can be quite challenging but we are there to
support you all the way You will have your own supervising social worker,
receive a range of training, and attend support groups and events celebrating
the achievements of young people and foster carers. You will also receive
allowances to cover the cost of a child living in your home and receive
personal allowances as well as a bonus element. If you believe you have what it
takes, can provide a loving and stable environment for a vulnerable child, and
have a spare bedroom, please phone 0800 234 6282 or go to St Christopher’s
