CATALOG PREFIX: NURS PRE-REQUISITES: Acceptance into the ADN Transition Pathway III. CREDIT HOURS: 3 IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to enable the student to explore integrative concepts in nursing and to assist the student in the transition from licensed practical nurse to registered nurse. Students refine and update previous learning in addition to identifying goals for a successful transition into the associate degree nursing program. Incorporated throughout the course is the importance of patientcentered care, quality improvement, communication, safety, clinical judgment, and professionalism. LECTURE HOURS: LABORATORY HOURS: 2 1 (3 clock hours) V. GRADING: To satisfactorily complete this course, the student must achieve a grade of B or above according to the following system: 90 – 100 = A 80 – 89 = B 0 – 79 = F VI. ADOPTED TEXT(S): None VII. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to: 1. Utilize steps of the nursing process in formulating a patient-centered and evidenced-based plan of care. 2. Analyze personal nursing knowledge and utilize the content review to enhance LPN clinical judgment and critical thinking skills in relationship to safe, effective, patient centered care. 3. Formulate decisions in consideration of the political process, as well as the legal, ethical and professional issues impacting nursing practice and delivery of health care. 4. Demonstrate competency at performing basic nursing skills pertinent to deliver safe patient care. VIII. COURSE METHODOLOGY Lecture, discussion, audio-visual materials, written assignments, laboratory practice, experiential activities, self paced modules, and evaluation. EVALUATION: Theory is evaluated by written examination and assessment of completeness and accuracy of any additional class related work, including essays, worksheets, quizzes and class participation, as determined by the classroom instructor. Students will be informed of the specific evaluation tools and their respective percentage values on the first day of class. NURS 2200: LPN to ADN Student Bridge Course, Summer 2015 Page 3 of 3 Skills Evaluation: If unsuccessful in 3 attempts, or unsuccessful completion of a skill within a 10 day period, an unsatisfactory lab performance will result. Unsatisfactory lab performance at the completion of the quarter will result in the grade of “F” for the entire course regardless of the theory grade. ATI: The student must achieve a Predicted Probability of Passing NCLEX-PN on the First Attempt of 95% or higher, or 91% or higher on Second Attempt. A sample of the results for PN Comprehensive Predictor is noted below. The findings will be located on the top right side of the results. The target Predicted Probability of Passing NCLEX-PN on the First Attempt will be identified on the second and third lines of the results. Adjusted Individual Total Score: 74.7% Predicted Probability of Passing NCLEX-PN® on the First Attempt: 95% Mean - National: 71.0% Mean - Program: 71.2% Percentile Rank - National: 69 Percentile Rank - Program: 69 Please note that the student must achieve the required score on the required ATI proctored assessment to successfully complete the course. If a student fails to achieve the required score on the ATI proctored assessment, regardless of lecture grade, the student will receive a grade of “F” for the course.
