Objective: Follow-up activity for Selena movie and practice applying rules for using the preterit
and the imperfect

1. Learning Language and Culture through Student Interaction on Facebook
2. Your assignment is to post material that will help Ms. Vilela’s students learn language and
American culture and they will do the same to help you learn about Argentine language and
culture.
3. You will post authentic—and APPROPRIATE—material in English, but comment in Spanish to
practice your writing skills and they will post authentic—and APPROPRIATE—material in
Spanish, but comment in English to practice their writing skills in English.
4. You will receive points for your participation in this project.
Stamp & Correct the WS: La cita de Felipe.
See who needs to finish writing 8 things learned about the Hispanic culture through the
movie. It can be social issues or family relationships and values. Each idea must be supported
with an example from the movie. Students may write this in English.
For example,
I learned about the prejudices that existed back then against Hispanics when the owner of
the club didn’t want them to play because they were Mexican and it was a Whites-only club.
Share some of the sentences of what students learned.
Next, students need to pretend they are telling a Spanish-speaking friend about the movie they
saw in their Spanish class. They need to use the comprehension questions they answered for the
movie to write 20 sentences, in Spanish, to SUMMARIZE and DESCRIBE what happened
in the movie.
Use the past tenses:
Preterit to talk about the events that HAPPENED;
Imperfect to DESCRIBE THE CIRCUMSTANCES;
and if needed pluperfect to say what people in the movie HAD done before another event.
Remind students that I will be out tomorrow for more IB testing. Be extra good!
