EDITOR'S COMMENTS The Case Study Institute has been promoting the writing and use of case studies in the teaching of theology in seminaries, divinity schools, and parishes for more than two decades. This is the tenth volume of the Journal for Case Teaching. Included this year is a wide range of cases dealing with issues in pastoral care and ministry, ethics, Bible, ecology, missiology, and religious pluralism. One case, "Sex and the Single Person," is from a recently published book of eighteen cases, Ethics and World Religions: Cross Cultural Case Studies (Orbis, 1999) edited by Regina Wentzel Wolfe and Christine E. Gudorf, and is included with their permission. Often teachers would like to use cases in particular venues and for discussions that do not allow for pre-preparation or time for reading and reflecting that longer cases require. Thus, for the first time we are adding to the content of the Journal six short or "mini" cases. All these cases deal with the issue of racism. Readers should keep in mind that the cases are all descriptions of real events. They are not fabrications or fiction. Though names and places are usually changed for obvious reasons, the other aspects of the case are true. The Case Study Institute offers a one-week summer workshop annually on the writing and teaching of case studies. Also, a periodic newsletter is distributed to all members and institutions that support this endeavor. For membership in the Institute or further information, contact the editor (see address and phone below) or Alice Evans at Plowshares Institute, P.O. Box 243, Simsbury, CT 06070, or call (860) 651-4304, FAX (860) 651-4305. All cases in the Journal are copyrighted by the Case Study Institute, and they, along with hundreds of previously written cases, can be obtained from the Yale University Divinity School Library, 409 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
