Dear Parents,
After the success of the 2014 carnival, the swimming carnival will again be a combined
Primary & High School event. The carnival is an opportunity for all members of the school
community to gather together and celebrate the talents of Emmaus Christian School
students. It encourages a sense of belonging and continuity as students and staff cultivate
loyalty and commitment to their particular House and hence the School. It is also an
opportunity to promote the health and fitness of your child. All parents are very welcome and
encouraged to attend.
The K-2 programme will focus on fun & participation in the Wading Pool. It will begin at
9:15am and conclude at around 10:30am, after which K-2 students only may leave with
parents. Children may not leave until their parent has signed the class teacher’s roll.
Written permission is required in the case of alternative arrangements. K-2 students
not leaving with parents will be escorted back to school where they will be supervised for the
remainder of the day.
Please Bring:
 Swimming costume + rash vest or sunsafe
T-shirt and towel
 Sunsmart hat & sunscreen
 Tracksuit or suitable warm clothing, plus
morning tea, lunch and plenty of water.
Children may utilize canteen facilities during
the lunch break (12.30pm – 1.30pm) only.
 Dressing in House colours is appropriate for
the carnival. Davenport - Gold, Wilshire - Sky
Blue, Bancroft - Red.
Please, ensure that all personal items are
clearly named.
The Years 3-10 students will compete for their Houses, and points will be awarded for place-getters and participants in each event. Ribbons will be
awarded to the three fastest times (Boys and Girls) in each 50m & 100m age group competitive event only. In order to enter these events, your
child should be able to swim one lap of Dickson Olympic Pool with confidence. This year will also see novelty events running throughout the day.
Age Champions –Age Champions from will be awarded for Year 6 to Year 10. This is based on an accumulation of points gained from competing three
or more 50m/100m events.
House Points - 1st place - 15points, 2nd place - 12points, 3rd place - 10points, 4th place – 6 points, Other - 3 points. Houses will be awarded points
throughout the day for showing House Spirit.
Each child in Years 3 to 10 will receive a list of events for the Carnival (see attached form),
which should be returned to the class/homeroom teacher by Friday 6th February (Week 1 –
Term 1), with choices of events clearly marked. Students are encouraged to enter at least
two events. As helpers will be on hand in the pool, all children should feel comfortable to
compete in the 25m & novelty events, regardless of their levels of “technical expertise”, and to
be a positive contributor to their House effort in this manner.
NB: All students are expected to attend the
Swimming Carnival as it is a compulsory school
day. Parents will be asked to explain their child’s
absence in writing in a note to their
Classroom/Homeroom teacher. All students who
are able to swim are encouraged to enter the
swimming events. Non-swimmers are encouraged
to participate by actively supporting their House
and assisting with official duties where
appropriate.
Students will be supervised in House areas for the duration of the day. Parents may join them
therein, but are requested to stay clear of all race areas. The Carnival will conclude at
2:45pm, after which students may be taken home by parents, or return to Emmaus under
teacher supervision for normal afternoon/home time arrangements. All children will be marked off on their class rolls, upon leaving the pool.
Yours sincerely,
