Dining Room There is a dining room located in Phase 1 for the use of staff and members of the public. In line with the Quality Standards for Practice Placements (NE2008), you will have a team approach to your learning experience and will work with a variety of Nurses and Health Care Professionals during your placement. Please ensure you bring your OAR booklets with you so that your mentor can help to prepare a suitable learning programme with you, agree your learning outcomes and find ways of achieving them. We do not wear uniforms, you are required to dress smart casual. No Jeans or trainers. ID badges must be carried/worn at all times. If you are unwell and are going to be absent, you are required to notify the University and also your mentor. Your mentor will also report your absence to the University (01382- 388194). You also need to inform both of your return to work. Students will be supported by their mentor to organise their placement programme within 48 hours of starting with the team. OUR PHILOSOPHY/STATEMENT OF VALUES IN RELATION TO THE EDUCATION OF STUDENT NURSES The School Nurse team will welcome Students and encourage them to feel part of the team. Students will be given a named mentor who will work in partnership with the student and the university to facilitate a placement appropriate to learning needs and agreed learning outcomes. We shall endeavour to provide a positive learning experience for students with regular feedback and reflection on practice. Students will receive a full orientation to the placement and be supported by their mentor to access key learning opportunities Students will be treated as individuals, encouraged to ask questions and take responsibility for their own learning. Students will be invited to provide regular feedback and evaluate their learning experience so that we can improve the learning environment for all students. We embrace the opportunity to welcome Student Nurse to a placement with the School Nursing Team. The School Nurses work autonomously and as part of a team alongside colleagues from other health disciplines, education staff and community workers. Our main client group is the school based population and the wider community. We aim to involve our Student Nurses in a wide range of activities that involve children, young people and their families. We take a holistic approach to the health and well being of the school communities. We are involved in the Health Promoting Schools Initiative and as part of this we obtain information for our school health profiles which provide relevant information regarding the health needs of our client group. We provide immunisations to school aged young people and also other groups in accordance with campaigns taking place. We carry out routine screening and regular contacts with young people for a variety of health issues. There is a great emphasis on child protection and support of children as part of our work. We are involved in health promotion activities and as part of national and local initiatives.
