I would like to present the Association’s Annual Report to all members of the Moore Park South East Cricket Association. The 2010/2011 season was unfortunately effected by some wet weather both during the Martin Shield representative program and our own semi-final series. Our Martin Shield team qualified for the quarter-finals but unfortunately went down to Manly and could not repeat the heroics of the previous season. In the main competition we had a total of 30 teams compete over 5 grades with the Premiership winners being 1 st Grade – Souths Juniors; 2 nd Grade – Ferns; 3 rd Grade – Coogee Bay Hotel Rebels; 4 th Grade – La Perouse; 5 th Grade – Coogee Bay Hotel Rebels. The Club Championship was taken out for the first time by Kingsford Apaches. In the Twenty20 competition we had 9 teams compete with the Division 1 Premiers being Souths Juniors and the same club (but different team) won the Division 2 title. My thanks to our Patron Mr Harry Solomons and Kingsgrove Sports Centre, the South Sydney Junior Rugby League Football Club, Kookaburra, the Kensington War Memorial Club and the Doncaster Hotel for their ongoing support and sponsorship of the Association. The Association’s financial position is sound, as detailed in the financial pages of this report and I would like to thank Paul Brien for his efforts as Acting Treasurer, taking the duties on top of his various duties as President of the Association. Finally I would like to thank all fellow Board Members, club delegates, umpires, scorers, volunteers and players who make up the competition and make it a success. Yours in cricket David Power Secretary
Ladies and Gentlemen: The 2010-2011 season marked the completion of 15 seasons since Moore Park, South Sydney and the Catholic Association joined to form the Moore Park & South East Cricket Association. I am pleased to report that this season saw a strong competition in all grades. Season 2010-2011 saw 30 teams enter our 5 grade competition. It was a year that saw multiple clubs at the forefront in terms of achieving the ultimate in Premiership and Minor Premiership wins. The season saw Coogee Bay Rebels field four teams and achieve two Premierships and a Minor Premiership. South’s Juniors regained the first grade title as well as Minor Premiership and on top of that won both Divisions of the 20/20 competition. Not to forget the Kingsford Apaches who fielded three teams and won the Club Championship as well as being minor premiers in both second and fifth grade. Well done to all involved with these three well run clubs. The time spent in organizing and running the clubs certainly paid off for all concerned in 2010-2011 season My congratulations also to the Ferns who at last, after so many close calls, in recent years have won a Premiership, well done Ferns whom I am sure will strive to ensure it won’t be a long time between drinks for their next title. Well done also to La Perouse who fielded a side blended with youth and experience to win the 5 TH Grade Premiership, well done Larpa. I take this opportunity of also congratulating the many individuals whose achievements are recorded further in this report. The season did not enjoy the same success on the representative front as was the case in 2009 2010.We did mange a victory over Northern Suburbs but our Martin Shield campaign was hampered with the weather although we managed to get to the quarter finals. Bathurst visited us in Season 2010-2011 and despite a great game unfortunately “The Plank” has returned to Bathurst. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those “behind the scenes” personnel involved in the rep season. Manager Bill Glacken, our scorers Gary & Maria Fulford whom without their expertise in scoring we simply wouldn’t know what the result was…..thank you both .well done. Our selectors headed by Chairman John Chalmers, our Captain Hippo who not only led on the field but I know was involved in many ways off the field, my personal thanks. Once again Dave “20/20” Power put together a 20/20 Sunday competition which is now in its fifth year. For the first time a club won both divisions, well done South’s Juniors. My thanks to Dave for his continued commitment to this competition which is growing every year. For an association to be successful, it needs support. I would like to thank a number of people for there support in season 2010-2011-: Noel Moig Agencies for the KOOKABURRA SPONSORSHIP. We are in the second year of a three year agreement with Kookaburra .This sponsorship is used directly to assist in the ever increasing ground fees set by the landlords of our grounds. I am pleased to report this year saw only minor fee increase due directly to the monies from this sponsorship. My thanks to both Noel Moig and Cameron Eves of Noel Moig Agencies and the team at Kookaburra for there on going support. Mr. Harry Solomon’s, Managing Director Kingsgrove Sports. Harry is not only our Patron but a long time supporter of park cricket in the South Sydney area having not only played many games in the former South Sydney Cricket Association but also represented that Association. Harry has a true understanding of Association cricket and what it takes to be a successful association and our success is helped by his support both at club and Association level. I thank Harry and the team at Kingsgrove Sports for there support and I urge all clubs to visit Kingsgrove Sports for all your teams and individual cricket requirements.
South Sydney Juniors Club. Not only do we get a great deal for our presentation evening but the club also financially contributes to ground costs each year. To the Board of Souths Juniors my thanks for your continued support and the Association looks forward to continuing our relationship for many years to come. Kensington War Memorial RSL. Thank you to the Board for the use of the club for delegates and Board meetings. The club has become our base for meetings and we are truly grateful to be allowed the use of the various meeting rooms. Thank you also for the trophy cabinet that houses our perpetual trophies. Centennial Park Trust, Botany Council, Randwick Council. Our thanks to these organisations and there staff who ensure our grounds are maintained each week. Doncaster Hotel. The Doncaster Hotel is now in its third year as a sponsor of our representative sides. My thanks to Michael Paterson and the team at the Doncaster Hotel for their continued support. I would urge all members to try the bistro at the Donny…….the food is fabulous and don’t forget to try your hand at trivia on trivia night ………thanks again to the DONNY. Umpires. My thanks to the umpires who each Saturday control our fixtures. Our numbers have fallen in the past few seasons; however John Chalmers is as always busy recruiting from other Associations. My thanks to John for his persistence in ensuring we have the necessary umpires each week. I would also encourage any person who wishes to be an umpire to contact John. Thanks again to our umpires. MPSECA BOARD- The Board this year was smaller than previous years with the positions of Treasurer and Secretary not filled at the AGM and despite numerous requests at delegate meetings no person nominated throughout the season. I thank those who were on the Board for there support and untiring contribution as volunteers to make this Association the success it is. I would like to particularly thank our Vice President, Dave Power who again stepped up this year to not only fulfil his role as a Vice President but also the role of Secretary as well as run 20/20 etc…..well done Dave your efforts are appreciated. I would encourage members to seriously consider offering your time to assist in running your Association and thereby ensure the future of the Association. To all players and members of the association. My thanks for your support for without our members we do not have this great association. Season 2010-2011 has concluded and as we enter a new season I assure you all the Association will continue to promote cricket in our area and will endeavour to provide to our members facilities that allow you all to enjoy our sport of cricket I look forward to seeing you all on the park in 2011-2012………….again my thanks for your continued support, I commend this report to the members. Paul Brien- President
On behalf of the board, I would like to thank all the umpires who helped make Season 2010/2011 a tremendous success. I hope that all the umpires will be back in harness next season. Thanks once again for your help. John Chalmers Umpires Coordinator
Trial Game v Shires at Alan Davidson Oval
The Rep Season for Season 2010/11 started off with a Trial Match against South Sydney Shires at Alan Davidson Oval on 17 th Oct 2010. We won the toss and batted but disaster struck almost straight away after 4 overs. We were 3 for 4, but then a partnership between Matt Donovan (57) and Ash Azhar (71) gave us a fighting chance and after 43 overs we were all out for a respectable total of 191. Our bowlers bowled a steady line that kept us in the game until the but that all important break through didn’t come and The Shires held out to win by 2 wickets. MPSECA - All out for 191 from 43 overs M Donovan 57, Ash Azhar 71 South Sydney Shires - 8/198 off 47 overs T Gardiner 2/34 from 10 overs; B Saracoglu 3/14 from 8 overs
Game 1 MPSECA v Northern Suburbs Cricket Association “Under the Bridge Trophy”
Once again we won the toss but this time we took to the field throwing Norths into bat and after 26 overs were dismissed for 125 runs. Our bowling was outstanding as we used the early conditions to our advantage with Bryan Seymour snaring 4/48 from his 10 overs. Dev Wijewardane claiming 3/33 off 8.1 very quick overs. Good support came from Paul Purcell 1/20 from 3 overs. Our Batting made short work of the total and achieved the result in 16 overs with Dev Wijewardane (49 no), Denham Williams (29 no) and N Islam (27). A really good result and we have retained the Trophy.
Game 2 Martin Shield v Parramatta at Kensington Oval
Washed Out
Game 3 Martin Shield v Hornsby at Berowra Oval
The toss was won by Hornsby and we had immediate results in the first over with Matt Wood accounting for their opening bat. Matt then claimed another 2 wickets in quick succession. Hornsby were able to recover and built their score up to 215 before they were finally dismissed. Our batting had a slight hiccup at the start, but a solid 52 not out from Matt Donovan and a solid 25 from N Islam got us back on track until the rain came and washed out any further play. MPSECA - 4 wickets for 102 M Donovan 52 n.o., N Islam 25 Hornsby - All Out 215 from 49 overs M Wood 5/62 14 overs; B Saracoglu 3/27 13 overs
Game 4 Martin Shield v Manly at St Andrews Oval Sydney Uni
This game was meant to be played at Kensington Oval but after a pitch inspection by Umpires the Game was moved to Sydney Uni. When the game finally started Manly won the toss and sent us into bat. We never really settled down and after 30 overs we were dismissed for a smallish score of 75 with Captain Hippo contributing 24. Manly made very short work of obtaining the total in only 17 overs. MPSECA - All out for 75 in 30 overs I Gittsidis 24 Manly - 1/81 off 17 overs H. Quddas 1/36 off 4 overs After this result we managed to qualify for the Quarter final where our opponents were again Manly.
Game 5 Martin Shield v Manly at Graham Reserve - Quarter Final
The toss was won by Manly which gave them an advantage of batting second on a wicket that was very flat and spinner friendly. We batted first and disaster struck in the 1 st over which we never really recovered from. Our batting was well served by John Duckett (43). Support coming from Justin Smith (24) and Scott O’Brien (27). We were finally dismissed in the 53 rd over for 147, which gave us a good total to bowl at if we were good enough. The Manly innings started off as badly as ours with Matt Wood obtaining a break through on the first ball, but unfortunately we couldn’t keep the momentum going. MPSECA – All out 147 off 53 overs J Duckett 43; J Smith 24; S O’Brien 27 Manly – 3 for 148 off 42 overs M Wood 1/32; G Standing 1/30; D Geer 1/28
Match 6 MPSECA v Bathurst CCA at Alan Davidson Oval “The Plank”
The toss was won by the visitors and after electing to bat found themselves in a very strong position. Some very good steady bowling by two players playing in their first rep game kept us in the game with Darren Kumar contributing 3/24 off 7 very firey overs and Lachlan Drummond 4/59 off 12 overs, this kept us in the game to an extent, but consistent breakthroughs didn’t come our way when required as Bathurst piled on 236 runs before finally being dismissed. Unfortunately our batting didn’t fire in this game as we were dismissed for just 80 runs. MPSECA - All out 80 off 24 overs Bathurst C.C.A - All out 236 off 48 overs D Kumar 3/24 off 10 overs; A Giles 3/49 off 10.2 overs; L Drummond 4/59 off 12 overs

In summary – the Wombats will be hoping to take it one step further next year.
Captain Cook Dolphins
The Cook had another up and down season, due to the inconsistency with numbers and performances from their senior players. However three of their players did have good performances in skipper Tim Scullard who scored 397 runs @ 30.54 and Jeremy Ruz 364 runs @ 45.50 whilst Sanjay Prasad knocked up 278 runs @ 23.17. Doncaster
The Premiers the previous two seasons just couldn’t make it three in a row for season 2010-2011. Unfortunately the loss of key players affected this year’s performance. The side had a strong batting line up which was spearheaded by John Duckett who scored 350 runs @ 35. Support was given by Steve Ward 190 runs @ 19.00, Mark Verzi, 177 runs @ 17.70 and Nathan Markou with 153 runs @ 15.30. The bowling was headed up by skipper Billy Saracoglu who captured 29 wickets @ 17.31. Support came from Daniel Jenkins with 17 wickets @ 11.71.

An up and down season for Botany who struggled later in the season with the bat but reached the semi-finals only to go down in the rain. Not a great season for the Puffetts, due to lack of numbers and consistency but the enthusiasm was always there. The outstanding performances came from Luke Whittington with 162 runs @ 54, Greg Bye with 133 @ 33.25 and Jeff Bye 123 @ 17.57. The bowling was well handled by Greg Bye with 14 wickets @ 14.36 and Luke Whittington with 10 wickets @ 25.60.

The bowling struggled a little, but the workload was shared around by at least five players who gave wholehearted performances each week.

The club claimed the Minor Premiership Shields in 2 nd and 5 th grade and finished well ahead of the field to take out their first Club Championship.
The 2010/2011 Twenty20 Season saw a total of 9 teams compete in a hard fought out competition. At the end of the round robin matches the teams were split into two grades to fight out the finals series. The top 3 placed teams, Souths Juniors 1, The Boonies and Ferns made up the Division 1 finalists and Souths Juniors 2, Doncaster Hot Rackets, Sons of Pitches and Team Radioshack qualified for the Division 2 finals. Division 2 saw Souths Juniors 1 triumph over the Boonies in the final and Division 2 saw Souths Juniors 2 defeat Doncaster Hot Rackets in the final. I’d like to thanks all the teams and players for participating in the competition as well as all the umpires who officiated in the matches.

The Association for season 2010-2011 recorded a surplus of $6361.00. This represented a turnaround on the previous year’s deficit of $ 8012.00. Whilst the above appears to be a good result on paper, members need to be aware that this result was partly achieved by the Association running the mid season Adam Gilchrist raffle which netted nearly half of this surplus figure. Members are also reminded that in 2010-2011 the Association did not go away to Bathurst, which is also heavily subsidised from Association funds. For season 2011-2012 the Association appears to be in a sound position with $68182.00 in cash deposits however there will be a trip to Bathurst in 2011-2012 as well as the usual representative fixtures. Whilst there is subsidies for representative cricket along with sponsorships the incoming Board will need to be very diligent in their expenditure to ensure season 2011-2012 achieves a minimum break even financial result. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all Club Treasurers/ Secretaries for their support to me in my role as Acting Treasurer. I commend this financial report for adoption by the members.
