To pre-register in University of Waterloo (UW) and Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) courses offered in the Fall and Winter terms of 2008-9 in the Tri-University Graduate Program in History. Because of its registration structure, the University of Guelph does not permit Tri-University Program pre-registration. WLU and UW students wishing to take courses at the University of Guelph need to contact Liz Cherry, the Graduate Secretary at the University of Guelph, during the pre-registration period (16-29 June) for instructions on how they should register for courses there. University of Guelph students may use the Tri-University pre-registration process described below to register for courses at UW and WLU. However, University of Guelph students must follow the information on registration supplied by your university for courses offered at the University of Guelph. The MA pre-registration process will open at 9am on 16 June and will close at midnight 29 June, 2008 . Once the pre-registration process closes, the graduate administrative assistants will temporarily reserve a space for you in any course in which you have pre-registered and will provide you with the information you need to officially enrol in those courses. To make changes to your UW or WLU course selection after pre-registration closes on 29 June, you must contact the graduate administrative assistant in your department by phone or email. None of the History MA courses at the University of Waterloo or Wilfrid Laurier University are open to self-registration other than through the Tri-University pre-registration program from 16 June-29 June, 2008. Only after pre-registration has closed and you’ve received confirmation from your administrative assistant of your class schedule, will you be able to use your home university’s online registration system. Because of university regulations, no course taken at a university other than your home university will appear on your official transcript until you fill out an Ontario Visiting Graduate Student (OVGS) form. You must fill out these forms and have them signed as soon as possible after 1 July 2008 (this applies to all Tri-University students and these OVGS forms will only be accepted after the pre-registration period has closed). Once the forms have been submitted to the graduate administrative assistant in your home department, you will be officially registered in the courses you are taking at one of the other two Tri-University campuses. The pre-registration process temporarily reserves you a space in a class, but you will not be formally registered and appear on the official class list until your OVGS form is completed. OVGS forms are available in your department and on-line from the Graduate Studies office at your university. When pre-registering, please pay attention to prerequisites. All prerequisites are listed in the individual course descriptions on the pre-registration website. If you pre-register for a course without enrolling in its prerequisite, you will be dropped from that course. No student may enrol in the "thesis" without permission of the graduate officer in your home department. Any student enrolling in the "thesis" course without prior approval will be dropped from that course. Students should enrol in the number of courses each term appropriate to their stream of study and the speed with which they want to complete their degree. Normally students in the Major Research Paper (MRP) stream take three courses in the fall term and three in the winter term, and there will be a box to check off for the MRP during pre-registration even though you will not officially register in it until well into the academic year. For more information, you should read the MA program handbook available on the Tri-University Program website or consult your university Graduate Program Calendar. We hope you find the instructions above clear and our pre-registration system easy to use.
