Eating Christmas in the Kalahari
Read the following article and write a reflective essay on the many
factors that led to cultural misunderstanding. You may want to
address the following:
o Naïve realism-the belief that people see the world in the same
way.
o Culture shock-the condition of confusion and anxiety
experienced by someone entering a new culture
o What is culturally appropriate?
o What is ethically appropriate?
Your essay does not have a required length.
Your essay does not have to be typed.
Your essay does not have to meet any criteria other than the topics
above.
This does not mean type 14 pages with a cover sheet, works cited,
footnotes, and protective plastic cover….this does not mean scratch 4
lines in crayon on the back of an envelope and turn it in.
You are to simply read the article and reflect on the topics I have
given you. If it takes you one page…so be it. If it takes you 5
pages…so be it.
After you have read this article you are free to interpret it in anyway
you want. This reflective essay is an opinion of yours. I will not
grade you on what you thought of the article. I am going to grade
you on how you address the topics I have pointed out above. This is
due on Tuesday the 17th.
