ORGANIZACION DE LOS ESTADOS AMERICANOS ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES Comisión Interamericana de Telecomunicaciones Inter-American Telecommunication Commission XXIX MEETING OF THE PERMANENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF CITEL (COM/CITEL) December 2& 3, 2014 Bavaro, Dominican Republic OEA/Ser.L/XVII.5 COM/CITEL/doc. 1616/14 21 November 2014 Original: English NAMING AND NUMBERING OF WORKING FILES AND MEETINGS OF CITEL (Item on the Agenda: 15) (Document submitted by the delegation of Brazil) PROPOSAL ON NAMING WORKING FILES The names of working files within CITEL contain a crescent numbering order that is not reset after every meeting, along with an identification of the Committee or Working Group where it was presented and the identification of the language of the document. The last document discussed by the XXVIII Meeting of COM/CITEL, for example, has the following names: “CO-1598_e.doc” and “CO-1598_i.doc”. It can be expected that the first input documents to be discussed at the XXIX Meeting of COM/CITEL will be named “CO-1599_e.doc” and “CO-1599_i.doc”. There is no clear indication in the file names as to when any of these documents were presented and in which year. This methodology of naming of files could be improved, to allow for a better organization of documents and easier access to specific documents from specific committees and meetings. Brazil proposes that CITEL adopts, beginning in January 2015, the following file naming convention: “AAAAA-YEAR-NN-XXX-L” Where AAAAA = Committee or Working Group [preference to the acronym in the Spanish language, e.g., CCPI instead of PCCI] NN = number of the meeting [in numbers instead of Roman numerals] XXX = number of the document within that meeting [will be reset after every meeting] L = language of the document [e or i] Following are some examples of naming of files for the upcoming CITEL meetings in 2015: “COM-2015-30-001-e”; “COM-2015-30-001-i”; CITEL, 1889 F ST. NW., WASHINGTON, D.C. 20006, U.S.A. TEL: +1 202 370 4713 FAX: +1 202 458 6854 e-mail: citel@oas.org Web page: http://www.citel.oas.org “GTPC-2015-31-001-e”; “GTPC-2015-31-001-i”; “CCPI-2015-26-001-e”; “CCPI-2015-26-001-i”; “CCPII-2015-25-001-e”; “CCPII-2015-25-001-e”. PROPOSAL ON NAMING MEETINGS The meetings of CITEL are numbered in a crescent order in Roman Numerals. The reason for using Roman Numerals is not entirely clear, but it creates confusion when organizing files related to those meetings. Computers do not understand Roman numerals and are not configured to present them in their right order. If there is no logical reason to use Roman numerals to number CITEL meetings, Brazil proposes that all CITEL meetings be numbered using Indo-Arabic numbers (“common” numbers). Examples: From XXIX Meeting of the Permanent Executive Committee (COM/CITEL) To 29th Meeting of the Permanent Executive Committee (COM/CITEL) From XXVI Meeting of Permanent Consultative Committee I (PCC.I): Telecommunications/ICTs To 26th Meeting of Permanent Consultative Committee I (PCC.I): Telecommunications/ICTs From XXV Meeting of Permanent Consultative Committee II (PCC.II): Radiocommunications To 25th Meeting of Permanent Consultative Committee II (PCC.II): Radiocommunications 106757456 09.03.16 1
