We are looking for volunteers to help direct traffic and collect donations. If you are interested in volunteering please call 574-1109 or email Kyle Ethridge .
Thanks to everyone who spent their Give A Day volunteer time picking up litter in D9. We had a big turnout at the Frankfort and Keats parking lot for our annual Spring cleanup on
Saturday and teams were also working in Irish Hill, Clifton Heights and other places across the district. Click here to view a video of some photos taken at Frankfort and Keats, where you can fill your reusable water bottle and park your bike every day. A big thanks to Clifton
McDonald’s for providing our group breakfast sandwiches and Heine Brothers’ Coffee!
We’ll have another big D9 cleanup in the fall but in the meantime you can organize your own efforts and sign out tools by contacting our office ( bill.hollander@louisvilleky.gov
or kyle.ethridge@louisvilleky.gov
or 574-1109) or by contacting Brightside ( http://louisvilleky.gov/government/brightside/neighborhood-cleanups or 574-2613).
Finally, you can be a litter warrior without much organization. Next time you go for a walk or to a park, bring a bag and spend a few minutes cleaning up the litter. You will feel better by making D9 stay green and you might just make someone else a little more responsible.
When folks see you cleaning things up, maybe they will think twice about littering next time or better still take your cue and make the commitment themselves to become litter warriors!
We’d like to feature your sustainability story - a resident or business doing good things for the environment. Riding the bus, bicycling, walking, gardening and more - our eNews will feature practices which can benefit all of us. Send you story to Bill Hollander or Kyle
Ethridge .

This fall, the owners of Blue Dog Bakery and Cafe, 2868 Frankfort Ave., will open Red Hog down the street in the former gas station next to Oscar's Hardware, where they'll run a local-meat butcher shop, small plates cafe and retail store "heavy, heavy, heavy on meat," according to co-owner Bob Hancock.
2 | P a g e
Named for the Red Wattle hogs Hancock has raised for seven years on Wildwood Farm, this shop is not the same format as when the bakery served evening tapas under the same name.
With three components, Hancock explains, it will "be a resource for locally raised animals to be butchered here in town; it will have a retail component where we will sell the meat and some select cheeses and charcuterie; and then it will have a small food component anchored by a wood-fired grill … with a small plate format." The focus will be on local meat.
