Execution: Intent: My intent for this lab is to further familiarize MS I/II cadets on navigating through the woods by themselves IOT build their confidence in their navigation ability, and for MS III cadets to gain further experience and confidence with orienteering that will help them at land navigation on the spring FTX and LDAC. A. Concept of the Operation: We will SP from Archbold at 1230 by GSA vans and POV’s. We will drive the approximately one hour trip to Mount Pleasant in Ithaca, NY and upon arrival the CSM will hold first formation and accountability. A safety brief will then be administered by the BN safety officer and the BN will then split into three groups: MS I’s in one group and MS II’s in another and MS III’s in the other. The MS III’s will be issued maps and scorecards, verify their pace if desired, plot their points and begin the course, finding the points on their scorecard using the terrain description for each point as hints. MS I’s will be put into groups with an MS IV or cadre; MS II’s will pair up or if they feel comfortable they may go alone; MS III’s will go alone. Upon finding all points, each cadet will move back to the finish point, their scorecard will be scored and, time permitting, they will be assigned another course to navigate. Everyone will be back to the SP NLT 1630. The CSM will hold final formation and accountability. We will then return to SU by GSA vehicle or POV. B.
