Introductory Statement
Gan Zhuowei was a student of Chung Cheng High School (Main) from the years 2013
to 2014.
Intellectual Independence and Passion for Learning
Zhuowei is a scholar from Chongqing, China, on the MOE school-based scholarship.
Due to his outstanding performance in the High School Entrance Examination in
Chongqing, he was recommend by his secondary school, Chongqing No.8 Middle
School, and selected to be a scholar in Chung Cheng High School (Main). Studying
alone in a foreign country with a distinctively different culture and education system,
Zhuowei managed to work hard and perform well in his school subjects, and achieved
commendable accomplishments in Mathematics and Sciences, which are reflected in
his Bronze Prize in Singapore Mathematic Olympiad and his representation for school
in SJPO (Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad) and SJChO(Singapore Junior
Chemistry Olympiad. Zhuowei is effectively bilingual in both English and Chinese.
His language proficiency is evident from his award certificate of the third place in the
‘golden microphone’ emcee competition in Chongqing.
Interpersonal Skills
As the president of Broadcasting Club in Chongqing No.8 Middle School and a group
leader in charge of Lianhe Zaobao correspondent magazine "Ying Zu Li Zan"(May
2013 issue), Zhuowei demonstrated strong leadership abilities as an effective
communicator with peers.
Being appointed as a Committee Member of the Chinese Drama Club, Zhuowei was
able to motivate others in fulfilling their roles and bring the Club to greater heights. In
the Co-curricular Activity, Zhuowei displayed a keen passion and talent for Drama. In
2013, he performed in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts central judging and
achieved the certificate of Distinction. He also performed as a major role in Chung
Cheng High Drama Night (2014) 'Hu Pan Liu Heng' and Chung Cheng High
Zhongqiu Festival Performance.
Zhuowei also displayed a passion for film production. In 2013, he participated in the
6th National Chinese Short Film Competition for Secondary Schools and his team
was awarded the 2nd Prize.
In addition, he actively participated in the publishing of School Magazine 'Hu Sheng'
(2013) and conducted the interview for School Principal Pang Choon How and School
Discipline Master Chua Chor Loon. He was also chosen to represent his school in the
'Xinleijiang' Literary Contest held by Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan and NUS
'Shichengbei' national debate competition.
Being conscious of the need to contribute to the community and society, Zhuowei
actively volunteered for Community Involvement Programme such as Guided Tour
for Junior Students. In 2013, He represented the school as a youth ambassador in Sun
Yat Sen Nanyang memorial Hall. He attended the Student Guides Training
Programme and conducted a two-day guided tour for junior students. After the
Programme, he was one of the two recipients for the awards of 'the best guide in the
Hall'.
In 2013, he was awarded by school for Commendable Service and Performance at the
Chung Cheng High School 74th Anniversary Celebrations as a student guide in Chung
Cheng Heritage Trail, a guided tour for special guests including Heng Swee Keat, the
Minister for Education of Singapore.
Furthermore, he demonstrated a global outlook. As a representative of Singapore's
Student Correspondents, he attended the international student correspondent outdoor
camp by Lianhe Zaobao, and helped to promote international and intranational
communications and understanding among correspondents both from Singapore and
Malaysia. It displays Zhuowei's ability to interact well with people from different
socio-cultural and religious backgrounds.
Personal Attributes
Zhuowei projects self-confidence, diligence and determination. He always aims to
give his best in his work. With his cheerful disposition and optimism, he is always
prepared to lead his team. As an extremely patient and outgoing person, Zhuowei
values teamwork, and encouraged cooperation and collaboration. Excelling in
communicating both with individuals and with small groups, Zhuowei is able to
interact well with people from diverse backgrounds.
