Are you unsure of the requirements, skills and/or expectations for a grade 12 course you
are considering for next year?
Choosing courses that will prepare for your future beyond Rick Hansen, and at the same time suit your
skills, interests and abilities is important to a productive and successful year. Before choosing a grade
12 course, review the recommendations, required skills and/or expectations for the various courses
offered at Rick Hansen. Speak to your counsellor/ teacher for recommendations.
MATH
Course: Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP 4C0)
Prerequisites: MBF 3C0 or MCF 3M0
Recommendations, required skills and/or expectations:
 recommended preparation: 70% or higher in MBF 3C0
 demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between 3-D objects and their 2-D
representations
 analyse significant problems/issues using statistics
 consolidate skills in analysing and interpreting mathematical models
Course: Advanced Functions (MHF 4U0)
Prerequisites: MCR 3U0
Recommendations, required skills and/or expectations:
 recommended preparation: 70% or higher in MCR 3U0
 required: a facility with both the algebraic and graphical representation of functions
 determine and interpret rates of change of functions and use graphical ideas to analyze functions
 analyse models of polynomial, exponential, logarithmic or trigonometric functions drawn from a
variety of applications.
Course: Mathematics for College Technology (MCT 4C0)
Prerequisites: MCF 3M0 or MCR 3U0

 demonstrate facility in carrying out and applying key manipulative skills
 analyse models of linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, and trigonometric functions drawn
