Course Description:
This is an integrated capstone course focusing on the application of concepts to the nature, functions and activities of actual businesses, analyzing objectives, policies, and performance, all in relation to the outside environment. Case studies will be used to develop analytical skills.
Knowledge and techniques, which have been learned in earlier courses, will be applied in this course.
Course Objectives:
To challenge students’ strategic business planning, justification, and implementation abilities
To present real world situations which require students to develop strategies that maximize companies’ opportunities and minimize companies’ threats
To allow students to integrate knowledge gained in accounting, finance, management and marketing, and apply this toward developing strategic plans
To expose students to the senior management perspectives within organizations, in addition to organizational stakeholders, competitors, and markets served
Departmental Objectives:
Understanding of the respective discipline from a theoretical basis
Understanding of the respective discipline from a practitioner basis
Familiarizing students with the appropriate level of the core concepts of the specific subject area
Showing students how the specific subject benefits an organization, its targeted audience, its stakeholders, and home/host markets
Delineating, analyzing, and synthesizing the various subject components
Allowing each student multiple opportunities to demonstrate acquired knowledge via interactive and/or individual activities
Learning the importance of ethical, individual, and organizational behavior
Developing an understanding of how local, regional, national, and world events/changes impact organizational behavior
Understanding the impact of changing and new technologies, such as the Internet, on business activities and decision-making
Gaining an appreciation for the dynamics of change
Learning the specific terminology and definitions associated with each discipline

Course Content:
Students will take the perspective of senior managers in developing long-term corporate strategies that can/will enhance overall organizational effectiveness. As the capstone business course, students will be applying their accumulated learning amassed in accounting, finance, management, and marketing courses. Topics include corporate governance, competitive activity within given industry structures, and maximizing corporate effectiveness and efficiency within stated constraints.

Personal computer, Internet access, and Microsoft programs

Students are responsible for all material covered in lectures, reading assignments, class assignments, and homework assignments

Please bring your textbook to each and every class, unless otherwise stated
Please submit all assignments on time; assignments received late will not be accepted
Cheating, in any form, will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of 0 and/or an F in the course; prior to taking an examination, you must remove all books, papers, etc. from your desk area
Missing an examination will result in a grade of 0 , unless there is an extreme emergency; you will have to provide official documentation that verifies and explains the absence
All examination and course grades are final and non-negotiable
