Course Objectives:
The purpose of this class is to provide students with an introduction
of the staffing process. Topics to be covered include job analysis,
recruitment, assessment, selection, and decision making.
Textbook:
Heneman III, H. G. & Judge, T. A. (2009). Staffing Organizations,
6th Edition, Boston: McGraw-Hill.(雙葉書局)
Class Format:
A variety of instructional techniques will be used in this class,
including, but not limited to: lectures, in-class activities, discussion,
exams, and student presentations.
Requirement:
Students are expected to attend every class, read all assigned
materials prior to class, and also expected to complete assignments
prior to class. Thorough and timely completion of all assignments
is expected. Late assignment will not be accepted.

I reserve the right to modify the syllabus and assignments for this class as necessary in

Class Quiz (20%)
There will be 5 quizzes. Each quiz includes about 10 multiple choice questions. The
quiz with the lowest score will be automatically excluded from your final quiz grade.
Group Assignment (40%)
Students are expected to form a team of up 4 (graduate) to 6 (undergraduate) students
for 3 group assignments (GAs). Late group assignment will be penalized 10% of your GA
grade per calendar day.
GA1 (10%): Text book Case study (40 min per group)a

I. Oral Report:(1) Students which not need to oral report provide background of
the case and discuss, ex. The situations, questions and other
information about the case.
(2)Then, provide 10~15 mins to students which need to oral
report
II. The content of ppt:The background description, decision analysis, how to do
about the case
III. The deadline of ppt:After your oral report, students need renew your ppt
about class discussion and hand in at the next Monday
1:00pm.
GA3 (30%): Staffing project
Individual Assignment (25%)
There will be 3 individual assignments (IAs). You will have to upload your
assignments to the class website. Late assignment will be penalized 10% of assignment grade
per calendar day. No plagiarism! Identical assignment will result in splitting the assignment
score with your classmate(s). The topics of IAs are:
IA1(5%): Multiple choice questions: Each student is required to pick 5 chapters and
submit 3 multiple-choice questions (undergraduate only need to provide 2
question) for each chapter. These questions will be distributed to the class
and to be used as sources of the quiz items.b

Your attendance and participation in the class is worth 9 % of your final grade. By
default, each student starts with zero in the A&P score. You will earn points by participating
in class discussions, asking insightful questions, class exercises, and extra point activities.
You earn 3 points per participation/contribution and you can earn up to 6 points for every
class and a maximum of 15 points for the whole semester.
Quizzes, group discussions, roll calls, or in-class activities will be used as your
attendance records. Each student is exempt from one absence with no questions asked. You
will be assessed 1 point against your final grade for each additional unexcused absence and
0.5 point for attending class later than 10:00 am.
Cell Phones and Laptop
Cell phones must be turned off or silenced during class. You can use your laptop in
during the class only for note taking. Using your laptop or phone for the following purposes
are strictly prohibited: emailing, instant messaging, and internet surfing. I reserve the right for
me and my TA to approach you in class without notification and warning, and to see what you
have been doing with your laptop and cell phone. If there is anything other than note-taking
related activities, you will be asked to leave the room.
