MERRITT HAWKINS SELECTED BY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA
TO TEACH PHYSICIAN RECRUITING

IRVING, TX -- Merritt Hawkins, a national physician search and consulting firm and a company of AMN
Healthcare, has been selected by the University of Florida to develop and serve as faculty for a new,
first-of-its-kind university-based course on the key components, strategies, and methods for
compensating and recruiting physicians.
“Physician recruiting is not a topic that has been taught at the college or university level,” notes
Mark Smith, president of Merritt Hawkins. “This course breaks new ground in establishing physician
recruiting as a subject worthy of academic study.”
The purpose of the self-directed, online course is outlined in its syllabus, which states: “After
completing the course students will be prepared to determine clinical needs within their organizations,
correctly analyze national financial benchmarking data relevant to physician compensation, structure an
appropriate incentive model, define a target market of potential candidates , interview interested
candidates and secure a provider.”
The course covers every phase of the physician recruiting process, from strategic planning to
candidate sourcing, compensation, contracts, interviewing and closure, using videos, webinars and a
wealth of written information gleaned from books, surveys and white papers.
The course is designed for health facility executives, physician recruiters and medical practice
administrators or owners. Entitled Physician Compensation and Recruiting Essentials, the course is the
only one of its kind in the nation, according to Smith.
