The Psychonomy Research Unit is a unit of research addressed by the Psy.D. prof. Hector
Monterde-i-Bort, who is also the responsible on behalf the University of Valencia in those projects
in which the Psychonomy Research Unit participates.
The Psychonomy Research Unit was founded in 2002 as a research unit within the Department of
Methodology of the Behavioural Sciences of the University of Valencia.
The University of Valencia, with the official name of “Universitat de València – Estudi General”
(UVEG), is the evolution of the historical “Estudi General de València" founded in 1499, is today a
modern European University which covers all areas of knowledge, scientific and technical, which
partakes of the distinction of “International Campus of Excellence”
RESEARCH PROFILES:
the Psychonomy Research Unit is currently devoted to research in the following areas or profiles:
Profile #1: Development of psychonomic resources (techniques and instruments of social and
psychological measurement, tests construction, validity and reliability assessment, statistical and
computer treatment of data, new technologies in Psychology, Psycho-informatics, electropsychology, computational techniques,…).
Profile #2: Traffic and Safety Psychology (study and prevention of risk factors, incidents and
accidents in vehicle handling, study of driver/pilot behaviour under risk conditions, efficiency and
improvement evaluation of transport prevention measures, study of transport accidents, risk
perception and take of decisions in traffic –ground and air- situations,…), measurement of risk
exposition, prevention of occupational risks, evaluation of psychological damage due to accident
or labour origin, ergonomy,…).
Profile #3: Human Mobility and Social Prejudice (study of the social and psychological aspects
related with migrations and vulnerable groups, change of attitude, measurement of prejudice
against different collectives, sex and minorities –racism, misogyny, homophobia-, blatant and
subtle prejudice research, developing of acceptance and rejection indicators, study of the
autonomy and life quality of elderly in the EU,…).
PROJECTS INVOLVED as PARTNER:
1) International range:
2003-2005: Life Quality of Senior Citizens in Relation to Mobility Conditions (SIZE). 5th
Framework Program (EU): ‘Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources’, key action 6
(‘The Ageing Populations and Disabilities’). Contract number: QLRT-2002-02399. Participation as
partner and leader of two work packages.
2006-2007: Implementation of urban mobility observatory in Bogotá (Colombia). Project
funded by the World Bank through the Alcaldía Mayor of Bogotá (Colombia) and two private
companies: Organización Pablo Bocarejo Engineers-Consultants (Colombia) and TOOL-ULEE, S.A.
(Spain). Participation as research responsible by contract between Prof. Hector Monterde-i-Bort
and Tool-Ulee, S.A., through the OTRI of the University of Valencia.
2006-2010: Pedestrian’s Quality Needs (PQN). COST Action 356. European Science
Fundation (7th Framework Program -EU-). Participation as partner and leader of the Working
Group 1: “Functional Needs”.
2011- in process: Road Safety in the Ageing Societies – Concerns and Solutions
(CONSOL). European Commission. Directorate General for Mobility and Transport
(MOVE/SUB/01-2010). Participation as partner.

RESEARCHERS TEAM OF THE PSYCHONOMY RESEARCH UNIT
(of the Dept. of Methodology of the Behavioural Sciences):
Prof. Dr. Hector Monterde-i-Bort, responsible of this research unit and responsible for this
project on behalf the University of Valencia. Associate professor in the University of Valencia,
specialist in statistics, measurement, and computing applied to Psychology, has in the traffic
psychology one of his oldest research lines. He has been responsible on behalf the University of
Valencia in several EU projects related with safety, mobility and quality of life. Member of the
Steering Committee of the International Co-operation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic Safety
(ICTCT) society and representative of the Spanish psychologist official association (COP) in the
Traffic Psychology Committee of the European Federation of Psychologists Association (EFPA).
Prof. Dr. María Dolores Frías-Navarro is specialist in research designs and methods. Associate
professor in the University of Valencia, with a long experience in national research projects in
research methodology; she is authority in methodology applied to empirical research.
Ms. Laura Badenes-Ribera is career researcher. Graduate in Psychology, Criminology and Laws,
has participated as granted scholarship in several national projects.
Dr. Diego Moreno-Ribas is a professional psychologist in active with long experience in research
tasks and interview methods. He has participated as contracted research in several EU projects.
