Literature and Composition A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens Tentative Unit Agenda Boldfaced items are due on the listed day General directions and responsibilities: Have the novel read by day one of the unit. There will be a quiz on each Book, usually before we discuss it. You will complete several passage analyses in multiple choice, discussion, and essay format. You will have a 2-3 page paper, topic and date to be specified later. You will prepare and deliver a closing argument for the trial of Sydney Carton as a final assessment. You will complete 2 in-class essays during this unit. You will participate in fishbowl discussions (approximately 30 minutes a piece) o You will sign up for a fishbowl topic. You are to become an expert on this topic. Bring to your double entry journal notes of insightful comments/questions which will help the class better understand your topic as it relates to the meaning of the work as a whole. Keep in mind that support for claims is essential. By this point in the class, you should not make any claims without adequate textual support. Think of the three parts of the analytical triangle. Your discussion should include all three. o You will be expected to enter each of the other two fishbowls and positively contribute to the class’ understanding of the topics. Come to class prepared with your insightful comments/questions to share in each fishbowl.
