Economics Year 10 Term 4 2014 The Year 10 curriculum gives students the opportunity to further develop their understanding of economics and business concepts by considering Australia’s economic performance and standard of living. The ways governments manage the economy to improve living standards is explored, along with the reasons why economic performance and living standards differ within and between economies. Students explore the nature of externalities and why the government intervenes to ensure that prices reflect the depletion of resources or costs to society. Students examine the consequences of decisions and the responses of business to changing economic conditions, including the way they manage their workforce. ACHEK051 - Please discuss the attached power point with the students in regards to the collapse Ask the students for their thoughts on the incident in Bangladesh The students are to read the two articles provided on the worksheet and record their thoughts. The second half of the power point touches on the involvement of NIke and child labour - this should spark a very interesting discussion. The living wage is a movement in Asia to try to achieve a living wage for workers. Look at the slides and then use the worksheet to further understand the idea students to complete the questions on the worksheet. Students are to use the internet to find two images from sweatshops, then they are to cut and paste these images onto the worksheet. Ask them to explain why they chose these images by annotating them. Ask the student to set up a folder on their desk top for SAE and save their worksheet here. Final task: Complete analysis questions and hand in along with own investigation from below. Homework discuss what they have learnt today with their parents - Recap what is meant by an ethical consumer from the previous lesson. Students are to work individually today to research an aspect of Ethical trading - they can choose an aspect to research or select one of the following: Sports Equipment, Products tested on animals (make-up), coffee,blood diamonds, elephant poaching in Africa - this is very current, battery hens, child labour around the world. Only allow five mins for them to select a topic in order to make a start on their work They are to use the internet to find out information on their chosen topic - they need to look at a minimum of four websites to find evidence to support the view of the sites - we need facts and figures.
